Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.

The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Figrnig amzanig huh?

I must say, that I am surprised that it works as well as it does, but I am able to read it. Hauxfan!

Shullbit!

Consider this a modified Spoonerism. LOL

Jim.

EDIT: In your example, most every word contains the correct letters and number of letters to be spelled correctly once they are set in the proper order. Unfortunately, poor spellers, even if they get the first and last letters correctly, don't just transpose the correct letters. Incorrect letters are often added and/or correct letters are omitted.

Jumble newspaper puzzles would still be somewhat difficult even if the first and last letters were printed in their proper positions - though it would make the shorter words easier it solve.

seems to make sense. I will keep that in mind when I am typing fast. Make sure you get the fist and last letter right at least and then spelllcheck shouldn't have a problem with the rest.

>Make sure you get the fist and last letter right at least and
>then spelllcheck shouldn't have a problem with the rest.

Spellcheck will never catch a "mis-spelled" word that is an actual word, hence "fist".

Here is Hauxfan's post as corrected by Spellcheck:

"According to a rscheearch at Cambridge Uinervtisy, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only iprmoetnt thing is that the first and last letter be at the right pclae.

The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it wouthit problem. This is bcuseae the human mind does not read ervey letter by itself, but the word as a whole.

Figrnig amazing huh?"

There still are 8 mispelled words out of 39 (or just over 20% ) . So spellcheck will help but not be a total solution, if, and it's probably a pretty big IF, the first and last letters are correct.

Jim.

I just recently found out of this too. However, I have not seen any actual news of this research happening. Does anyone know where it came from?

You mis-spelled "ttlly". You used a vowel (maybe 2) in "yu" or isn't "u" considered a vowel in hbrw? And "a" in your second sentence is a vowel. Apparently a lot of punctuation is also done without.

For intellectual stimulation or mental masturbation, in the case of those on a different intellectual plane. Or just for the pure sillyness of it all.

I'm sure that the UK taxpayers are thrilled that this was accomplished.Perhaps we should switch the UD research away from the mundane to this type of project. It is probably better than many studies that our Universities spend money and effort on these days.To think that I might have died without learning about this is frightnin Mental masturbation? Can I sign on for an online study

Hi KJT,Try it sometime.Only posting to those you agree with, stifles the chance to experience other viewpoints. Some of the most spirited and LEARNING discussions are those with disagreements among the posters.I hope you don't really mean it

No, I meant it. But keep in mind that to me there is a quantum difference between something I don't give a damn about and something I disagree with. I have no qualms about voicing my opinion if I disagree with something.

Some topics just don't interest me. However, I don't have any compulsion to question the participants as to why anyone would "give a dam". Simple as that.

Jim.

I get your point. My post indicated my disagreement with the type of research and wondered why it was even news.I obviously was in the minority as I have received 23 messages in my Email on this research in the last 5 days, most of which were the same as the post.I still don't give a damn but many others do.I have asked the first few why they thought it was noteworthy enough to send it and none have replyed so far.I still think the lifesaver research is more important:lol:

It is interesting that what was a seemingly failed effort to use "thnaks" has borne some fruit. We must reseach this further. Will some university pick up the effort
