I have been following Daniells thread with interest. It prompts me to ask of you.

Will this upgrade provide me with a reasonable improvement for the Canadian money?

It all depends on what you do if it's web browsing and email you probably won't notice a great deal of difference. If you do a bit of processor intensive stuff then yes it's a decent upgrade. Ram prices are crazy right now aren't they?

Ditto on the ram prices. It seems like a decent upgrade for the money. I held off from building a Ryzen game machine because my old one is still quite nice. Half the ram I wanted to put in the new rig would still run me over $800.00. I am guessing I will upgrade the video card to a GTX1080 FTW in this machine and build the new one later like I did with last the build.
Thank you both fellows, I guess I got carried away with Daniells project. As you mentioned, my main use no longer requires anything extra powerful. When I built this box I was into much video making and DVD writing of the results. Not having used a newer PC build, has me wondering if progress has left me far behind. I must say it has served me well. The full ATX size with lots of good air holes and fans has proved its value. My only issues have been with graphics and leaves me for a distaste of the fancy expensive GPUs.
I would like to ask how you go about matching or determining which components will dance together? I began looking through the MOBO specs only to find the numbers displayed did not show the Ryzen models numbers.
Thank goodness there are people like you guys out there willing to explain. Thanks Fred

That can be a tough one. With computers I generally use the philosophy that you get what you pay for. Read everything about the components that you can, and pick up on the recurring theme from the reviewers, so you can get a good idea what is actually true or just hype. I like to game so I read a lot about overclocking, pick high end components and then use them at standard settings or boosted to where they are comfortable. The computer I used before this one I built when Windows 7 64 bit was fairly young. It ran a 940 black edition for some time and then upgraded it to a 1100T. I gave that computer to a Friend of mine upgraded along the way To windows 10. I just got it back last week for it's first repair, a failed PC Power and cooling 750 silencer. I was surprised at how snappy and quick it still was. I gave that one away 6 or 7 years ago before my wife became ill and it is still going strong. My current build I used a ASUS Sabertooth motherboard and a FX8350 Black processor, 32Gb of ram a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD with a EVGA GTX970 FTW. It is still quite nice. It plays Destiny 2 flawlessly on a 32" Sharp HD television I use for a monitor. We will see how it does with Far Cry 5 when it goes live tomorrow. The last upgrade this computer will get is a EVGA GTX1080 FTW before I build a Ryzen machine. This one cost me about $1,500 to build. I expect the next one will be closer to twice that much. By the way you are welcome to the 940 black if it would work and be an upgrade for your current system. It's in the box for my FX8350 with it's fan that I never used.
