"Windows 10 stop code re-boots driving me crazy."

I leave my computer on 24/7. Prior to windows 10 (win 7). I had no problems with this.
At first Windows 10 worked as well. Lately , about an hour after logging on in the morning , Windows will issue a Stopcode warning and reboot. This morning I was in the middle of a long email when it rebooted. That is the last straw. If I can remember to reboot before loggin on in the morning, I can avoid the Stopcode reboot and usually use the computer for the rest of the day without problems. I have tried updating drivers and other suggestions but none of them have worked. I got to the point of considering re-installing Windows 7 to get away from this stupid annoyance. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Tks.

What is the "stop code"?

If you aren't able to see it because of your computer automatically rebooting, follow these steps:

Quote:
1.Click 'Start'
2.Click on 'Run'
3.Type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
4.Click on the 'Advanced' tab
5.Click on the 'Startup and Recovery' Settings button
6.Uncheck 'Automatically restart', then click on OK
7.Click on OK to exit the System applet, then close the Control Panel.
8.Reboot for the change to take effect

I still get the Stop warning window which says computer has to restart but since I have checked dont restart, it just sits there with the stop window showing and to get out of it I have to manually turn off the computer and then turn it back on again.

Follow the steps above except for #6 which you should checkmark to Automatically restart.

Try looking at Event Manager in Computer Management.

Right click on your desktop Windows icon. Select Manage. If necessary, expand System Tools by clicking the down arrow. Select and expand Event Viewer.

See if there are any error messages, critical stops, etc. that occurred at the time of the most recent freeze up.

If it sits at the stop window you should be able to write down the error code. Then Google" Windows 10 error code XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX " . With the stop code of couse. That should bring up a search of possible causes. Drivers, software, memory etc...

There's a new(?) BSOD in Win 10 that doesn't have a code: Here's a screenshot of one from a Google search:

This is only representational - the error that "you can search for later" can vary.

The window in Jims message is the one that I got. It did take longer for the code stop message to appear than it did previously . If I re-boot manually in the morning , or don't run it 24/7 , I should be able to use it all if not most of the day without a re-boot.
I had very few problems with windows 7 and I liked it. But, the free offer of Windows 10 upgrade gave me a chance to bring my computer up to date. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Look at the Windows Reliability Monitor.

Windows key + S, start typing reliability, the search results will show the Reliability Monitor. Click on it to launch the program. Look for events that have a red dot with a white X in it. Click on these events to get more details and post them for us.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

OK thanks, I will try that. Since we had a power failure on Sunday night, my computer has run 24/7 after a manual re-boot early monday morning without a stop violation reboot.
