139744, Bill To Cut War Funding Loses 70-28

The Democrats took the election of '06 by storm because America has had enough of the war and relied on the Dems to get us out.

Americans wonder why Bush's approval ratings are almost 3 times higher than Congress. Democrats are afraid to denounce a MoveOn.org ad for fear of the backlash MoveOn.org will cause. MoveOn.org and the DailyKos have already started their attacks on Democrats for not doing enough to get us out of Iraq.

If this continues, I can't believe it, but the Republicans might have a chance in '08.

But at the same time maybe JohnnyReb is right in the aspect that we broke it, we should fix it. Cutting and running would be a disaster. And that sounds like that's the moral thing to do. But if the majority of Americans want out of Iraq, and this is our country, and we elect our officials to do just that, shouldn't our elected officials get us out?

The New York Times notes that "even before the vote on Thursday, the Democrats began articulating the message that is likely to be their mantra for months: the Republican minority in the Senate is defying the will of a majority of Congress and a majority of Americans by blocking legislation to hasten the end of the war.

The current United States Senate is made up of 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans, and 2 Independents who caucus with the Democrats, one of whom is a adamant hawk. It requires 60 ayes to send anything to the President. And then, should he decide to excercise the veto, it would require two-thirds to override it. Do the math.

If you think that this situation will be to the advantage of Republicans November '08, you are dreaming in Technicolor. Come next summer, when the Republicans who have to face their party primaries next spring, have secured their nominations, they will be abandoning Bush's sinking ship in droves. Otherwise they face certain annihilation.

But it would be more encouraging if the rest of the electorate proved a bit more savvy than you appear to be.

I am quite aware of the math, but thanks for the lesson. I am fully aware of how hard it is to get anything done in this country while we are so divided.

I was talking about the 20 Dem's that voted against the bill and how the voters in those states who voted them in may feel disenfranchised come '08.

Don't think my dreams are all Technicolor now. You told me to get some sleep when I wanted to start a prediction on who will win in '08 yet you're already predicting the Republicans don't have a chance. How are you so sure? A lot can happen between now and then. I think the Dem's have the upper hand right now, but I don't think the deal is sealed for them. A lot can happen.

It was widely speculated here in '04 that Kerry was going to win, when in months in advance I KNEW he didn't have a chance.

Are you sure about that? America voted for Bush twice, but I only did once.

Was that once the first or second time? Because you are a bit of a fascist at heart, Whippersnapper, the first time would be understandable, even forgivable. But after four years under your self- asserted sagacious scrutiny, if you voted for that cretin, then that would brand you either a full-fledged Nazi or a gullible fool.

I trust it was the first time? :-)

The '04 election was a bust. It was purposely contrived for the '08 election to go where it's headed. Myself and many Americans were disappointed in it. There were many liberals in America who wouldn't force themselves to vote for Kerry. If there was a stronger Democrat in '04 I could of definitely voted for him.

Calling me a fascist is personal attack! :-)

Smile when you say that, Whippersnapper. You will place me in serious jeopardy. :-)

You mean to tell us you voted for W. the second time around! Never mind fascist -- you graduated, Adam -- you are a full-fledged Nazi! ...or a fool.

We'll leave the choice to you. ;-)

Calling this many people Nazi's is a bit bold:

Tell that to the Republicans who are afraid to vote against Bush, and have blocked every vote to end the war responsibly. The American people are not all stupid, they know who is trying to end the war and who is trying to prolong it. And you know who will feel their wrath on election day. The poll ratings for Congress reflect the electorates contempt for the Republicans therein, who are thwarting the will of 70% of the American public. I had some trepidation if the Democrats ran Hillery, but now I feel they could run Pee Wee Herman and win.
