291233, Outlook Express help Posted by jayceca, Sat Apr-03-04 07:49 PM
Hello everyone. I really need help here. I have just upgraded to a new computer, and it has XP Home. I am having a great deal of problems with OE. I have downloaded Cloudeight stationery and it looks fine when I am writing a letter, but when I send it out, it is received at the other end as an attachment. Also, when I receive any stationery, I receive it as an attachment. I have been using this stationery for years now with Windows 98 and had no problems, so I do know how to use it.
I have checked all the settings in OE and they are the same as the old computer, (which my hubby now uses). The mail settings are set at send HTML, not plain text, and in the security I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be saved, etc."
I really do not know what else to do, and can't seem to get help from anyone. Can anyone here help. PLEASE! :(

In the Send setting - have you checked the HTML settings to see if send pictures is checked. Also, in the Read tab, is the Read all messages in plain text unchecked?

Are you by any chance using Hotbar? Anyway, here is a link to the Cloudeight help/support page.

Thank you Darrin, but I have checked out the Cloudeight help page and I have even written them for help, but they can't help. Also, I do use the correct form for the stationery. I have also asked Microsoft for help, but they want $45 to answer this question. Can't afford that nonsense, it cost me enough just to buy this whole new system.

If you haven't already done so, it could be worth running IE Repair:
CP >Add/Remove Programs >Microsoft Internet Explorer >Repair. :-)

I cannot find repair in the add/remove. If I click on internet explorer, it will remove it. How do I find Repair?

i think when you click add/remove it will give you an option to repair...... better wait and see if some else can confirm this first though....

It doesn't even ask the usual question if I am sure I want to delete etc., it just deletes it! I am afraid to try that.

That option isn't there in XP.

My apologies.
I have W98SE and thought that the Repair option for IE was the same in XP.
It's not, as has now been pointed out.
See the relevant MSKB article:

Thank you Mitch, this might be the answer, but it is far too involved for my brain. Hopefully I can ask my computer guy to come and do it. I think when you become a senior, things look a whole lot more complicated then they used to. LOL

I just checked the stationery that comes with Outlook Express to see if it works, it doesn't. So the stationery that IE supplies doesn't even work. I thought it might just be imported stationery.

If you want to test sending and receiving, I'm quite willing to assist, but I'll need your email addy of course. You can PM me or email it via the forum. :-) :-)

Thank you Wendy, and everyone for all your help in this matter. I now wonder why I bothered to get a new system. Oh well, I suppose that I will get past this.
