"You pick the majors, I take the classes!" Wed Apr-07-04 11:56 PM by doctormidnight
As some of you know I'm in the double-degree program over here at Washington State University, doing English and History. Here's a little background on what a double-degree entails:
1. 150 Credits required for graduation with 2 degrees.
2. Unlimited Majors (NOT degrees)
3. Unlimited Minors
4. Cross-Course Credit (i.e., taking History 412 counts for the US History requirement for both English and History majors)
Here's where the interesting bit happens. Because so many of my courses get cross-credit, when I get to between 90 and 100 credits (at the end of Fall 2004), I will have all the requirements for graduation, except of course for the 150 total credits. These are basically elective credits. Underwater Inter-racial Gay sex appreciation, Flatulence and Society 210, etc.
So, I'm in a quandry as to what majors (NOT degree) would benefit me the most. For example, adding an Anthropology major would require 27 credits (in addition to the assumed base of 100), and surely quite a few of those will count towards other majors. So I'm looking at a total of TWO more majors in addition to my 2 degrees.
Basically any option in the Social Sciences is open. Math will get you a gigantic NO, as will any other science besides General Biology.
To help you in narrowing down the possibilities, here are the list of majors in the College of Liberal Arts. Read through those, have fun, and make a suggestion. I would prefer it if you at least attempt to qualify the answer, but it's not required.
Oh, P.S. Philosophy is out as I have already picked it as a Minor.
How about Russian? Just kidding. I took two semesters of that in college and would suggest avoiding it. (Then again, I stink and any language other than English or computer-based languages.)
The Russian instructors (at least the language ones) aren't really that great, unless you get one of the honors programs. And with those you have to have had 3 years of the particular language before you can even take the course, I have 2 years of German.

(edit)oops, you wanted qualified answers.(/edit) Art History (because I like it), Criminal Justice (because it's a good thing to fall back on in hard times), Anthropology (why not?).

How bout Women's Studies? And it you need an explaination for that, you got probs man.
But seriously, how bout Archaeology? (Just because it's always interested me. Probably due to Indiana Jones and National Geographic.) Other than that, none of the selections interest me.
My older brother earned an honorary degree in Flatulence & Society. If you want more info, advise. He'll be more than willing to demonstrate how he achieved such a distinktion.

So far Anthropology is leading the way. The only real problem I have is that Anthro, especially at our school, is heavily influenced by politics, more so than I was expecting. I really don't know why, perhaps it is just a exception to the rule. But that is the nature of the modern U.S. University, so I'll just have to deal with it.
