A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes that he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me but can you tell me where I am?"

"You must be an engineer" says the balloonist.
"Yes I am" replies the man. "How did you know?"
"Well" says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone."
The man below says "you must be in management."
"I am" replies the Balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," says the nan, "you don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

Damn, Shel, that's not a joke, it is a fact of life from my experience as engineering manager at Bushnell, a sports optics tech company, where upper management (ultimately, B&L Corporate)hired a former VP at Rickenbocker (sp?) Popcorn to be VP of Marketing and, at the same time, hired a former Pepsi VP as the VP of Sales. Thus, in one fell swoop, we found ourselves saddled with a couple of ballpark experts in pop and popcorn who knew NOTHING about our business.

I worked at A&P Food stores for 13 years and I ran the night crew and they hired these college guys to do time studies to tell me how to do my job better.Of course knowing nothing about the fluctuation of the retail business they made a mess of things.I told the one guy I was the laziest guy there and I had already found the easiest way to do my job.
