Donations for bullied bus monitor soar past $500,000

The online campaign raising money to send a bullied New York school bus monitor on vacation has surpassed its goal – by more than half a million dollars.

The rapidly growing “Lets Give Karen – The bus monitor – H Klein A Vacation!” campaign on Indiegogo.com, a site devoted to raising money for various causes, reached nearly $550,000 by midday Friday, just two days after it was started. The original goal was set at $5,000.

As disgusting as what she was subjected to was, this is over the top. However from what I have heard of and from the lady I'm guessing she will pass most of it on to charity.

Me to.
Bullying is so bad in schools today because it has become so difficult to discipline any kids for fear of retribution from parents and the Law.

Many of these kids really had no proper rearing in their families and they are like little wild animals.

I don't care what anybody says but kids today are much worse than they
where 30-50 years ago. I remember evil kids in school but nothing like today. They where few and far between.
Now it's more the norm and considered a cool way to be to them.

Your probably right Shelly. That is probably the new thing now.
catch some bullying on file and upload to YouTube.
but the dumb asses that are doing that I guess having figured
out that the videos are evidence of their bad behavior

They are going to incriminate themselves posting that.

I have seen that before many times. Stories of people posting pics and videos that incriminate themselves.

Sadly, bullying can also be bad because some school administrators will turn a blind eye towards bullying. If they don't see it happening (or don't acknowledge that it actually constitutes bullying), then they don't need to admit that they have a bullying problem and don't need to do something about it.

There was a Bully movie recently (which I haven't seen partly because I was bullied so much growing up that I fear it'd bring back a lot of unpleasant memories) where a kid was bullied and went to the teacher. In front of the teacher, the bully apologized. The teacher then berated the bullied kid for not accepting the apology and forgetting the whole matter. (Of course, ignoring that the bully was just "apologizing" because the teacher was there and would likely start where he left off the minute the teacher was out of earshot.)

Yes bullying is very traumatic on a kid (or adult). Some overcome it some unfortunately don't.

Little story of my own here. I wasn't really bullied, but there was one kid in junior high that would taunt me constantly. One day I'd had enough and right in the middle of lunch I beat the living shit out of him. We both got suspended and had to have a conference with the administration and our parents. In the conference his dad berated him for getting his ass kicked. Some father Believe it or not, we became friends after that and stayed friends all through high school.

I think your right. I think kids these days have in fact gotten rougher and I feel that part of it is the things that they are exposed to these days. We have gangster rap, movies with violence, shows like J Springer that degrade morals, We have satanic rock and roll and violent video games etc etc.
I think kids are just exposed to the roughness more so it becomes the norm. I mean have you ever listened to the stuff teenagers listen to like Emenem and that stuff. Its all violence and twisted stuff and that bad attitude etc.

But I think there is at least in the last few years more focus on Bullying. That schools and so forth are recognition it as a real problem. only I don't know what they can do about it.
But at least schools are addressing it and talking to kids about the issue... I watched a few documentaries about bullying recently and it was sad. Quite a few young people have been really hurt and some even lost their lives over bullying incidents.

But you are right in one of those documentaries I watched about bullying the police have come forward and pretty much have said that there is not much they can do about it in most cases
because its not really against the law to say something nasty to somebody. If there is no physical harm then the police cant really intervene. And the police and the teachers cant be with a kid all the time. And sometimes when a kid talks to a teacher about it
the bullies will get mad because they squealed and they might even step up their bullying routine. Its a sad situation. I think the worse cases is when a group of bullies come down on one single kid.
Being ganged up on is not good.

I agree Paul she was subjected to some verbal harassment.
But I dont think she needs 500 K in compensation.

but I guess people are just thrown buy the incident and people
are donating toward that cause.

I mean dam. I will let some teenagers bad mouth me for a good 20 minutes if I can make 500 K after.
sweet deal.

Camera phone was supposedly given to the kid to film it by someone else and forced to film it according to the local Rochester news coverage here onsite.

I think that suspending them from school for a year is a little harsh. Letting them walk to school and work with senior citizens is OK but setting them back a year in their education is going to hurt them in the long run and may even cause them to drop out when they are a year behind their peers. I suppose they could be home schooled but they would be better off in classrooms.

Students who bullied N.Y. bus monitor are suspended for a year

(CNN) -- Four middle school students caught on camera verbally abusing their bus monitor have been suspended for a year and will be required to complete 50 hours of community service, school district officials said Friday.
Recorded by a student with a cell phone camera on what was the second-to-last day of school, the brazen bullying went viral and spurred international outrage.
