I love unhealthy food but do not find that place the least bit appealing. My favorite is a good juicy Shawarma (Arabic: شاورما‎) dripping with lamb fat.

Yummy

That's one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a long time. Thank you.

lol... it's not finished cooking yet. (and the place I went to, would slice it off and throw it on the grill some, before serving)

mmmmm... I used to get good shawarmas at this falafel in Toronto. Served in a pita type thing. I don't know all the terminology but it was good.

One thing I didn't like, that my coworkers always got was this garlicky, oily paste. I think it was chick peas and egg plant.

In Australia we know them as kebabs. And I suspect the other stuff is hommus. My vegetarian daughter eats the disgusting stuff.

That looks like my kind of place... and the burgers and other bits look marvelous.

I don't give a shit about how unhealthy it is. I was meant to eat meat, not fucking tofu.

I'm sick and tired of the nanny state and an anal retentive society dictating what's on the menu. It's getting harder to find a good burger these days.

At least to get one the way you want it. If I pay $6 to $8 for a hamburger, I want it my way, medium rare, not the way some short order cook likes it. Steak or roast beef should be at least still bleeding, if not actually Mooing. If they will not cook it that way they are just admitting their meat is inferior.

Well, you should be able to get it your way on request. I'm sure you're right about most places not trusting their meat though.

However, I distrust ground beef more than I would steak or roast. It's got too much surface area for exposure. While I do enjoy rare meat, I won't eat rare burgers.

------------------------------

Nothing turns me off more than seeing some jackass with a bowl of hamburger meat going grey around the edges, mishandling food though.

At one place I worked, every Friday I'd go around the plant taking orders for take out lunch and I'd phone the order in and go pick it up for everyone. It was usually a sizable order, so at one restaurant we frequented, the manager/cook got me to come in the back door and come directly to the kitchen. That was a mistake on his part because it let me see his terrible food handling practices.

Yep, I mentioned the bowl of meat going grey around the edges. Also, he was making burgers by hand, then picking up buns and cutting them with a dirty knife laying on the counter where he had the raw meat.

This guy did not thoroughly cook the burgers either. This is not the kind of place you'd want to get a medium rare burger. In fact it was not the the kind of place I wanted to get everyone's lunch anymore so I told people about it.

We have a burger joint here in town that is owned by an older couple that is similar to the Heart Attack Grill -- burgers to die for. A double will kill you and they say I'm the only one who has attempted a triple.

The kitchen is all out in the open. They take the meat out of the fridge and put it right on the grill. All of it is super clean and fresh.

I also like my meats rare, but not so much on a burger.

Same here.

Love it rare.

The blood adds to the taste.

Yum!

I might have been able to put one of those quads away 30 years ago.

As Shelly says medium rare is the way to go for a burger if the meat is of good quality. There's nothing like going to a place you've never been to before and having a great burger. I usually order it medium and hope the meat is good and they under cook it a little.

My wife doesn't eat red meat so I don't get much of it at home. Makes it all that much nicer to get a good burger out.
