Paypal is reliable. As a member you may be more prone to be taken in by the phishing attempts in your e-mail to steal information from you. Never give out information if you are not 100% sure it is legitimate.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. "Why shouldn't the American people take half my money from me? I took it all from them." - Edward Filene
I don't use PayPal regularly so I normally do not have any credit/debit cards registered. When I need to use it I register a credit card, do the transaction, when it's been confirmed I then unregister the credit card. I know it's probably unnecessary but I feel happy with it.
Its been directly linked to my bank checking account, not a credit card, for many years. I have never had a problem, and I use it often. It's my preferred method of payment wherever I can use it.

I have PayPal tied to my checking account, all credit cards and debit cards.
PayPal for me is just as much a part of my finances as my hometown bank. I would be lost without my PayPal debit card.
I have no fear and have not been compromised in the 8 years I've had PayPal.
What I always say to people who are paranoid about this kind of stuff is to stop using plastic and old fashioned checks now. Go back to the dark ages of carrying cash and the annoying rattle of a pocketful of change. Because every time you use your debit/credit card/check, anywhere, whether it's online or at your local Wal-Mart, your information is being transferred across the internet.
