The Fact is I don't love this. That poor man is just doing his job and it happens to be "that". He is not the one to harass for the call. I get calls all day from such folks and I am polite about saying no. They are only doing what they get paid for. A bad choice of job perhaps but who knows their life situation. My cousin is one such person who "Needed" a job and they do something like that even if its only for a short period of time. I don't mean to get on you personally. I posted so people will understand more when they are called by such folks. Please don't take offense.

I agree with you. I hate telemarketers and pollsters, but I don't think that abusing them is funny. I get these calls all the time, and when I do, I simply hang up. I give them no response whatsoever. My wife thinks that even THAT is impolite, but ... she used to be a pollster. I still hang up. No response, not "sorry," no nothing. Just "click."
I was a telemarketer. For one day. And I agree with you, click is better than no, to me at least. I hated being told no. I also don't have to listen to a long drawn out "no". If you're not interested, you're not interested. A simple hang up got me off the phone quicker so I could call the next victim.
It is work. Very few enjoy it, but most people have done it around here (vacation town), because the pay is good and people need the money.

The automatic dialer you answer usually clues you in to what is about to happen and those two seconds of silence that greet your "hello" give you time to hang up without having to deal with a person. The few times I do get nailed, a quick and polite, "No thank you, I'm not interested," does the trick.
I do agree the calls are annoying, but I agree also that Tom Mabe's comedy "bit" was abusive -- I cringed rather than laughed. Besides, isn't impersonating a police officer a criminal offense? It smells, at least, like there's the makings of a civil suit here. Maybe this telemarketer lucked out and the smart-ass bullying of Mr. Mabe will have him shelling out a bit more than $19.95 for a subscription to Field & Stream.
And, I wonder how many poor suckers Mabe had to try his "impromptu" bit out on before he got someone to hang around long enough to feed him all the juicy set ups he needed to make publicity tapes to distribute to radio stations.
And maybe... But no, the whole thing isn't just a put on, is it?

I don't think you should be embarrassed . I enjoyed it the second time around. Truth be know ,in the end, the telemarketer probably got a laugh out of it. Lets not forget the marketeer also had the hang up option. I to hang up without a word.
