Tomorrow is kiss my ass day... I don't subscribe to such sacrificial nonsense. Sure I could do without my computer/car/electricity/meat (whatever) for a day, but I don't have to. There is plenty of energy to run it and plenty of money to pay the bills.

I'm sure there will be all kinds of righteous people proud of themselves for doing this but they only demonstrate how small minded they are to be sucked in to such an agenda. It doesn't accomplish anything either, because they'll be back to their gluttony on the next day.

Now, how would a wimpy soft cover book like that help me manage my anger? I've got a big old hard bound Websters dictionary that is much more satisfying to wield than that thing.

That site is red flagged in Site Adviser. Be careful about visiting there.

It is just one more pitiful bit of nonsense that is no solution to saving energy. It is just as stupid as the plan being pushed by Clinton, McCain, and now Bush to "solve" the gas price problem by dropping the 18.4 cent a gallon federal tax on gasoline for six months.

This will save the average driver about $25 in the six months, and put hundreds of thousands of construction workers out of jobs, and cost us billions of dollars that would be spent to keep our roads and bridges repaired. That is what the gas tax is used for. Typical political smoke and mirrors that so far only Barak Obama has had the political guts to denounce for the pandering nonsense it is.

Which is the majority!

It's just how people assimilate info. "Obama's against giving us a tax break!" will loom over more peoples heads than the reasons he is against it.

Look at how many bitch a fit that gas is up 2 cents today. Not realizing that they are bitching over the paltry 30 cents more it took to fill up.

18.4 cent drop is a dream come true, again not realizing that it's only a petty $25 savings over 6 months.

I wouldn't register, but I wanted to reflect on how much time is spent in front of a monitor.

Did a whole week with no televison (at all) last year and it was interesting.

So, Whipper, you have finally come around to agree that democracy is the worst form of government despite the alternatives and that we should have rule by meritocracy. You know, us "Majestics" pulling the chain.

Or not..

I love the way you manage to straddle the fence on each and every issue -- Alex Keaton to Mike (All In The Family) Stivic in less than a heartbeat -- but it must play holy hell with your little Whipper butt crack.

I guess I'm not an average driver. By my calculations I'd save about $150 in 6 months. Which is still only $6 a week. So it certainly wouldn't even be noticed.

The average American driver uses about two gallons of gas a day, and puts about 14 gallons in their tank once a week. Under the tax holiday from Memorial Day to Labor Day (three months, not six) that driver would save about 37 cents a day, for a total of about $33.

In exchange, an estimated 300,000 construction workers working on our highway infrastructure will be temporarily put out of work. If money is taken from elsewhere to replace the lost tax revenue, it will increase the national deficit by over $4 Billion, and the oil companies will quickly raise gas prices to erase the tax savings.

http://blog.wired.com/cars/2008/04/gas-tax-holiday.html

This is the stupidest idea I have seen decades! When will people actually begin to think this political garbage through.

I am in full agreement with you and your analysis .However, as we live in a gimme gimme society there are some that will not take into account the consequences of such an attitude. IMO" another stupid idea" tax rebates.

Repealment of gas taxes is not a new thing. I'm not sure about federal, but it has happened on the state levels.

This tax elimination would be as effective as the rebate checks. But don't tell American's that you're against giving them a whopping $600, or $2.50 a week.

That's just stupid. I'm with Grogan. However, I do go without a computer sometimes. Like when I go camping for a weekend, fishing for a day or two, or go on a vacation for a week or so. (I also shut off my cell phone during those times and only turn it on if I need to make a call.)

I agree. What would we be saving the energy for?

So that there is more of it available for those who abuse the use of it more than anyone else.

All I see with all of this is the same old S**T handed out to the gullible part of the public that was handed out many times in the early 70's and many other times in our history by extremist who would rather instill fear in others rather than come up with some simple common sense solutions.
