Hillary finished 3rd according to CNN.

Obama is a better nominee than Hillary. Edwards is big money that speaks about the poor forked tounge.

Huckabee won on Republican side, I think Republicans have weaker candidates. The only exception would be if Hillary gets nomination her negatives could cost her Presidential election against a Republican

I think it's all a joke. No matter what is being said I still don't beleive this country is ready for a woman or a black president. When these folks are polled they make it up and I beleive the same thing goes for this caucus.

It's been said by others here and I agree Clinton and Qbama will not be nominated. Still we are left with a very sorry crew to pick from.

"BULLETIN"!:

Democrats turn out in record numbers in Iowa to vote for change!
Obama-Edwards solid one-two punch speaks out for change. Republicans on the other hand voted for country preacher Huckabee, a relic of the far past and harbinger of more of the same venal Republican politics.

More ominous for Republicans, Obama’s win will energize millions of blacks (maybe tens of millions), millions of Gays, Independents/”Moderates” and youths across the country.
What you may have forgotten, Blacks, Gays, Hispanics and youths heavily populate the 12 present and future “Megalopolis’” (“Urban Centers”) in this country and they will vote Democrat in numbers not seen since the Roosevelt days.

You also missed how mostly white (97%) very conservative, "values" laden, church-going Iowans saw Obama/Edwards as voices for change: what hope in hell can any (does any) Republican hold out? More of the same?
The results say there will be no more Republican hegemony, no more divisiveness, no more hate mongering by our governments.

OBAMA-EDWARDS: a likely winning ticket in November.

FYI: Obama is not just "Black":
he's "Muliticultural": an idea in America whose time has finally come
.

Edwards is a phony. As Tort lawyer how much did he take home? How much did his clients really get after billing? If he was a class action lawyer he made millions while the people in the class action get very little. He also was in a hedge fund he had to dump when it was reported. He is just another rich man that wants to tell the rest of the people how to live. He wants us to go green make a smaller carbon footprint but he lives high on the hog. He justifies it by saying he buys carbon credits. If I were Obama I would choose Richardson as my VP more credible than Edwards

You can discover that online since he had to file a financial disclosure statment.
Your "problem" with Tort Lawyers is a classist comment.
Any American is allowed to make their way in commerce and if by applying their skills, earn what the traffic will bear.

After a $10 million judgment about $6 million.
And you have a problem with that?

Ah, Right Wing Myrmidon banter; you are not a Democrat or if you are, your feet are too firmly planted in Dixecrat territory to make a meaningful comment.

Multicultural - 1: of, relating to, reflecting, or adapted to diverse cultures.
Mulatto - 1: the first-generation offspring of a black person and a white person.
It is more correct to label him, if you must, as a mulatto.
Given that he has a Kenyan father and an American mother then he could just as correctly be labeled a 'White'.
Or he could be labeled an 'American-Amercian' just as validly as an 'African-American'.

I reckon Multicultural is a good word to describe Obama, but apparently his church is not very multicultural.

His "Church" is Christianity.
Oh, you're low enough to talk about where he worships and the composition of its congregation: even there, every member is a Christian.

Is it the Black Liberation Theology thing you got a problem with?
You don't think Blacks want and need to know their place in the world?

Or is it the bland edfice?

Low enough? I also am Christian, and have no problems with that. But I am also American, and this quote bothers me. After all, he is trying to be POTUSA.

"A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA"

Emphasis not mine.

If that story had an ounce of truth or credibility, it would have been plastered all of the major newspapers across the country and it would have made major headlines. But you took some rumour conjured up by some jackass fool on the internet as the truth and bit hook, line & sinker. Of course this isn't the first time you've displayed this kind of stupid ignorance.

That photo was taken not during the national anthem but during the Star Spangled Banner.

Only a neocon like you would show that link in an effort to tarnish his reputation. If you think your pathetic attempts to spread false accusations can get past the more intelligent members of this forum, you'll be sorely disappointed.

The Star Spangled Banner is our national anthem!

From your article:

Quote:
"I was taught by my grandfather that you put your hand over your heart during the pledge, but during the Star Spangled Banner, you sing!" Obama said.

According to the code, you put your hand over your heart for the Star Spangled Banner.

Snopes says it's true:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/anthem.asp

And a link to the code:

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/36/301.html

When I first heard the news reports about the flag lapel thing, I kind of thought it was admirable of him. Now combined with this....I don't know.

So I guess if I were to stand at attention and not place my hand over my heart during the anthem would automatically qualify me as an anti-american or somehow diminish respect & love for this country? Well blow me down and call the CIA. Call the homeland security people too while you're at it.

I still can't get over how there are some miscreants on the internet who love to spread false rumours and people eat it up hook line & sinker. Rather than taking a close inspection and researching whether Obama is truly anti-american or anti-US flag (whatever you want to insert in your pretty little head of yours), you would rather take Jordan's word as the truth.

What I don't understand is the slavish US reverence for symbols, even in preference to what really matters.

What's more important? Doubtless George W Bush stands with his hand over his heart during the National Anthem as he drags your country's international reputation through the mud. So that makes it all OK?

I think James, Noreen and I understand quite well what makes a true patriot, not to mention the qualities needed to make a statesman. Hell, you guys even need a written code to tell you how to behave when the National Anthem is played. To me it is (and has been since I was a small child) a matter of course to stand when any country's National Anthem is played.

No, but you're reaching and we're not talking about GW or his policies, what it takes to become president or the qualifications, we're talking about respect to the United States and it's flag.

Give it a rest. If you'd be honest, it doesn't even matter to you.

We all know who you're NOT going to vote for, and most all of us know why you're not going to vote for him. (Hint for anyone who doesn't: It has nothing to do with flag worship.)

As far as Patriotism goes, after election to the Senate, there is a "swearing in ceremony".

Quote:
Oath of Office

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

It seems to me that swearing to this oath, as he has, is of far, far, far greater significance than a public display of "hand over heart" could ever be. It's beyond laughable that you would try to convince anyone that you think otherwise.

Have you taken a similar Oath? Or, or we supposed to believe that you're a patriotic American just because you probably stand hand over heart at public displays?

Oh, how about telling us who you are going to vote for. It might be entertaining for some to take cheap shots at the person you support. After all, as you've shown, it's really easy to do.

Jim.

As for the US citizens in this thread who don't come to the rescue of America and it's flag and defend it against the blasphemy of whoever thinks respecting the flag is a joke. I think the same about them too.

Maybe the next time I'm in England I'll flip the queen off and spit on her. Pretty disrespectful isn't it?

You all read the US code. It's not about competency to be president, and it's less about patriotism than it is about RESPECT. Respect to your country and flag. I wouldn't expect you Paul or Noreen to understand it at all.

Keep your pants on, Whipper! No one flipped off your flag off and spit on it. As a matter of fact, when I'm attending an event where anyone's national anthem is being played, I get off my fat ass and doff my hat.

I thought we were discussing the partisan over-reaction by an obviously mentally stunted few here to one of your presidential candidates having a minor brain fart. He didn't think to put his hand over his heart while your national anthem was being played -- a sacrilegious omission which in the tiny minds of some harms his consideration for the White House.

That is what is pathetic.

Largely due to the idiot who now occupies that place, the world finds itself in a shit hole up to its eyeballs. It needs all the help it can get from the best you have to offer. Get your act together and grow up!

And, I know it's sometimes difficult for you, but try to follow the conversation.

Since I love how you BS your way out of stuff, I'll give you some more fuel. Since, as you've displayed, you don't understand the issue, I'll educate you on it.

EdGreene style baby:

I used the queen as an example. It would seem that in England folks there revere her as we do here our country and flag. Doing what Obama did is just about as bad.

Quote:
As a matter of fact, when I'm attending an event where anyone's national anthem is being played, I get off my fat ass and doff my hat.

But WHY? Because everyone else is doing it and you don't want to look like a schmuck?

Quote:
to one of your presidential candidates having a minor brain fart.

What you don't seem to understand is, it's not minor! Thankfully because this is a free country you won't be thrown in the stockade for it. But if you were in the military and you did that...your ass is grass.

Quote:
He didn't think to put his hand over his heart while your national anthem was being played...which in the tiny minds of some harms his consideration for the White House.

That is what is pathetic.

When it comes to that, there is no brain fart, it's automatic. You just do it. What is pathetic is how he didn't know you were supposed to do it. As I stated above, a 1st grader knows that.

How dare you criticize my understanding of patriotism -- you, twenty-seven-and-a-half going on seven-and-a-half puffed-up little wannabe, who don't know even a smidgen as much as you should about what is happening outside of your own small backyard.

My family left dead and wounded on the battlefields of two world wars, so that picky little jackasses like you can sit around playing trivia with the stuff of life. They must be rolling in their graves.

Apparently you are unable to separate symbol from substance. What other petty altars of fetish do you worship at?

Don't tell me, I'm no longer interested.

I'm gonna stop now, before I say something I'll really regret.

Adieu, Whippersnapper. Good luck -- you're gonna need it.

Wow! Good spin! You're an expert.

So judging from your reaction it's OK to think it's ridiculous how Americans think about this, but don't DARE do it back?

Quote:

That may be true, but I'm not going to patronize someone in another country for how they show respect to their country and flag. Or if in England they want to worship some old lady, who am I to tell them they're ridiculous?

Going from your replies thus far today you show the same ignorance for anything further than your backyard. I'm 26, what's your excuse?

Adam, the qualities required for the future president are far in excess of such trivialities.

See that's what you must not understand this isn't a triviality.
And I'm not looking at this as a quality for president at all. I'm looking at this as an American who is showing a HUGE disrespect to our country.

That American just happens to be running for president.

This is not directed at the last poster (Ablib) or anyone else.

I am a patriot. I am a loyal American citizen. I served for 20 years in the US Army and 20 more years as a civil service employee in the US Department of Defense. I stand when the US Anthem is played, and whether or not I hold my hand over my heart I can't say; I don't know (I don't get out a lot; I'm old). I love my country. I don't care if others observe the courtesies of the Anthem or the Flag. While it might matter to ME what I do (or don't do), what others do is not up to me and I don't care what they do or don't do. I'm happy inside my skin and I just wish that others could be also.

JohnnyReb As you told Adam! I hope you look back on this string of nonsense in shame it applies double to you. Just take a moment and go back and read what you wrote cause I too am an AMERICAN and what you wrote aint TRIVIALITY to all of us VETRANS.

Quote:
It IS a triviality. I am American. I have been one considerably longer than you. I do not put my hand over my heart when the anthem is played. Does that make me less worthy than you?

And for any religious members of the forum . isn't the elevation of the American flag to the heights that Adam is suggesting (as do any number of my redneck brethren) frighteningly close to idolotry?

The flag code is just that. A code. Not a law. You can't get punished for it, so stop trying to punish those who don't follow it.

I personnally don't care how long you have been an AMERICAN. There are things in this country that should hold some kinda of pride to us and Respect and Honor of our Flag should be one of them. For a civilian standing and facing the flag is enough of an honor and IMHO it fullfills the code. But for the military (Active or retired -don't really care) proper rendering our flag and the national Anthem is different. We know what it is and what to do. AND an ACTIVE DUTY Soldier can be PUNISHED for not rendering proper Honor. It is punishable under the UCMJ.

Quote:
Sit back, take a few breaths, and grow up.

What a childish statement to make. You need to look further into what you seem to think you know so much about. A person running for POTUS is not only president He/She to the military is commander in chief. He should be setting an example as each and every NCO & Officer in the Chain-of-Command, because as CIC he is at the top of the chain-of-command.

NOTE: Now with all that said let me add that always bringing up these old nit picking things is not right. Does any body remember the old pic of Clinton in Vietnam when he was looking down into an M-16 and the caption read "Do you want him to be your Commander In Cheif." Same stuff here the man(OBAMA) made a mistake and if you go back and ask him now YOU will find out he has changed cause he was taught what to do. I can overlook this and don't hold one mistake against him cause I'm sure he'll never do it again. A lot of civilians don't know and really don't care...

If you can't find something more substantial to hate or not vote for a candidate then we be in bigger trouble than any of that.

I to am A PATRIOT. I am a Loyal US Citizen. Served in the Military for 22 years did civil service. My father was in for 22 years served in both WWII and Korean Conflict. ALL my uncles served. I have now 2 son and a daughter in law serving with her in IRAQ for her 3rd time.

We do care what others do and did. We care about our FLAG and what it stands for. What kind of VETERAN are you if you don't care. I'm happy in my skin too cause it contains HONOR, PRIDE, and some caring about what happens in this country.

I am not happy with the current events in IRAQ, not happy with the reasons we went, not happy with the way things are turning out, I voted for BUSH and am not happy with him in all cases either But I earned that right. IMHO I still did'nt make a mistake in the vote I cast because he was still the better person. That is what makes AMERICA Great cause it gives me the right to disagree with you and the thoughts you have. You got that right too and it comes from the men and women who fought under those stars and stripes you don't much care how people treat it.

I thought those that leaned left were the party of peace. Hillary and Edwards and Obama might not get a whole lot of Support from the far left after these statements concerning Pakistan

The opening moments of the debate produced agreement on Obama's summertime statement, controversial at the time, that he would take action against terrorist leader Osama bin Laden if he had actionable intelligence that he was hiding in Pakistan and the government there did not act.

"As much as possible," the United States should seek agreement from Pakistanis, Obama added.

Edwards agreed. "If I as president of the United States know where Osama bin Laden is I would go get him," the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee said.

Likewise, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said that if diplomacy failed and the Pakistani government was incapable of moving against the terrorist leader, "then you do take that action."

Clinton agreed, saying, "At some point, probably when the missiles have been launched, the Pakistani government has to know they are on the way." She said that was important to make sure Pakistan didn't jump to the conclusion that it was under attack from India, its longtime rival in southwest Asia

I've just read the Snopes item for which you provided the link previously. I note that you didn't say anything about the TWO images showing him making the accepted gestures during the playing of your anthem. Nor did you mention what he said about patriotism.

What do you know about character? You dare go up against Noreen & James who have seen much more of the world than you could ever imagine, telling them they just "don't get it". Here's a newsflash for you whipper, some of the oldest & wisest people who have far more intellect than you could muster up are telling you to reconsider your thoughts on this and you pretty much are telling them to go shove it.

You're just another young punk who knows nothing of the world. You announce on this forum how you're 26, 6 months away from turning 27 and we're supposed to be impressed by that? James was right and I'll say it again - you're a man child who values his what little intellect you've displayed here like a hobo would value his last change of clothes.

And to Noreen & James if you're reading this, I sadly say that everything that is wrong with America's youth is exemplified in ablib's blabbering in this thread. I wish I could say he is th exception rather than the norm, but our country has produced nothing but young punks who have no regard for history or for people have lived through it.

You should of read RETSFCL post before spewing out your nonsense.

This is the great injustice I said in another thread that would bring me outta of my cage!!!

First off Adam said lets just all let it be. But knowww you being the troll you are saw this opportunity to stir the pot & even brownnosing James & Noreen to get their approval.

You pathetic little piece of an excuse to breath are air. Unlike you Johnjohn, Adam is who he sais he is & we know where he's from & he's also pctured in the collage. I know James, collage, collage... next pic make her more beautiful.

Jan told you last & almost every other member at one time told you off now c'est moi mon trou de cu. Why don't you go crawl back under that friggin trailer you came out of & lay off the kid you TROLL. He did more for his country in this thread then you'll ever do in the rest of your pathetic hiding behind your computer life.

The writings on the wall!!!

Oh dear .. here we go again.

Not in reply to, or directed at anyone in particular, but.....

Considering all the intellectual might alluded to on this site, a great many here display little maturity.

Ablib .... it would be a great shame if you left this forum. I enjoy your light hearted jousting with James.

I would agree there is no need for anybody to leave over something as petty as this. But why can't the childish comments be kept to oneself. We can discuss this stuff without the name calling.

I have an Aunt who I love dearly. She is a devout Democrat and we argue all the time. She will only vote for a Democrat no matter what the circumstances are.
I would never stoop to calling her a name or trying to undermine her convictions. She's 86 years old and she has been like this all her life. There is no changing her.

Can't we just discuss the topics without the name calling????????????

So why bother to stand at attention? Why not just remain seated? Or turn your back and show your real love and respect for the country, flag and tradition. Your actions would just simply place you in the same category as Obama Hussein. Did you notice the actions of the others in the photo? What are they, anti-americans?

FYI: Obama is not just "Black":
he's "Multicultural": an idea in America whose time has finally come.

Quote:
Multicultural - 1: of, relating to, reflecting, or adapted to diverse cultures.
Mulatto - 1: the first-generation offspring of a black person and a white person.
It is more correct to label him, if you must, as a mulatto.
Aren’t we being anal retentive?
Quote:
Given that he has a Kenyan father and an American mother then he could just as correctly be labeled a 'White'.
Very “white” of you but you know any degree of “Black” in a person to nearly all but "enlightened" whites makes him “Black”.

Or he could be labeled an 'American-Amercian' just as validly as an 'African-American'.

Hell, even when you do post extemporaneously, you muddle your context.

I would like very much to believe that the United States has matured to the point where any qualified citizen can be elected to the Presidency, Black, Female, Hispanic, or Jew. There will always be bigots in our society, but they will hopefully become an insignificant minority.

Obama went a long way toward demonstrating that a black man might be electable with a convincing win in a state that is mostly, White, and Christian. Only time and primary votes in many parts of the country can confirm or disprove America's growth in equality. Florida's primary on February 5th will be an interesting indicator.

I was, as I previously posted here, concerned about Hillary Clinton's electability in a general Presidential election, and I am concerned about Obama's electability as a Black too, we will soon have the answer to that question in the 28 other primaries being held in the next 32 days. People do lie in polls because they are ashamed of their bigotry, but elections bring out the truth. An analysis of where Obama's support was is encouraging. Young independents, Students, women and crossover Republicans broke heavily for Obama. the caucus turnout for Democrats was nearly double any previous Presidential election. Counties in the northwest corner of the state, bordering on South Dakota, one of the most conservative and Evangelical Christian areas in Iowa, if not the nation, went to Obama.

So there is hope that perhaps we are becoming the nation we should always have been.

Shelly

I hope so too. But how do you think, for lack of a better word, the anti-bigots will influence this election? Anti-bigots meaning those that vote for the race, sex or religion of the candidate specifically because the candidate has these qualifiers. This, to a certain degree, is a voter that votes straight ticket no matter what the qualifications of the candidate or lack of. The only qualifier the candidate has is party affiliation.

Same here but in listening to polls and over hearing remarks made while sitting in hospital waiting area. I just don't see that happening YET.

That is what I was saying. You said it better. But I see the media being taken for a ride in these polls and comments on the news are so misleading. As for the turn-out at the polls I can only hope that it stays or even increases at time of election.

I still see it as a joke. Can it be possible that folks are trying to get either of these 2 the party nomination and then blow them out in the general election?? The supporters of the 2 especially Obama (ie Oprah) pull a lot of weight and have a lot of followers. Could it just be the public is just stuffing the ballot to please these supporters? I beleive so.

Ed you can post all the BULLETINS you want but I am writting what I feel and think. Just cause I did'nt add everything I read or heard does'nt mean I did'nt see it.

We all have seen in the past some shady election practices. It is no different here and I feel that instead of the voters coming out and saying exactly what is on their minds they are reverting to hiding the truth and stacking the deck. Yes we'll see. But don't fall for all that you hear or see cause it can come back to bite you.

Of course it can be possible but it may not be the people you think. Many of the folks that want either Hillary or Obama to get the Democratic nomination are crossover Republican voters.

I have long predicted this crossover would happen and it seems to be coming true given the info Shelly posted in #15 above regarding those who voted for Obama.

In a nutshell, it's to the Republicans' advantage to help one or the other receive the Democratic nomination. They are aware of the country's biases and prejudices. They know the old ways and beliefs die hard.

Some may have come to the conclusion that it's the only way to elect a Republican president in '08.

Maybe we'll even see an organization called "Republicans for Obama in 2008" before the Primary voting comes to an end.

You get one guess which Party's candidate the crossover voters will support come the General Election.

Jim.

Are you implying that the Democrats don't use the same tactics? I would find that hard to believe.

I usually vote the Democratic ballot here in our area because they are the dominant party and the Republican candidates for local office are a bunch of losers. But when it comes to the general elections, I have no problem with voting for the best person, IMHO, what ever party yhey may be from.

Oh, I think it's reasonable to believe that Democrats have done it too, but they're probably not going to in the upcoming primaries.

I think this year it is more important for them to vote for whichever Democratic candidate they support. Rather than trying to manipulate the Republicans, their votes have more value when cast for their preferred candidate.

Jim.

The number of electoral votes for each state is equal to their number of Representatives in both houses of Congress, but not less than 3.

In 1992 another Democrat suffered a huge defeat in the Iowa Caucus. That democrat later went on to become a 2 term President. His name was Bill Clinton.
I think, for Obama, its the Oprah factor. Ever since she declared for him his standings have got a boost. According to news reports he polled higher than Mrs Clinton, among women voters, in Iowa.

Guns don't kill people. Husbands who come home early kill people.

i like the term "multicultural". people can be that and mulatto, too. tho to me the term "mulatto" still has prejuidiced connotations that i don't like.

It was reported Obama took 57 percent of young vote and 76 percent of black vote. If that holds up nation wide Hillary could be toast. What Bill did does not mean Hillary is going to do the same thing.

Don't care. Even if Obama doesn't get it, he's my write in. I will not vote for any other this term. I've not found any other representative that can do the job as well as I feel he can.
