How? Care to explain other than just simply touting words?

I actually thought you would somewhat agree with the article.

Also, the far left is totally out of control in this country,

And the far right isn't?

Your hero in action: http://mediamatters.org/items/200709210007

If the man hadn't the excuse of being a simpleton, he'd be a flaming racist. And as my sainted grandfather used to say, "Show me who your friends are, and you'll show me what you are."

ok since you're short and sweet this morning. I'll try to understand it.

All I can see is that he's stereotyping black people. That doesn't make him racist. We all stereotype. Don't we James?

If a white person stereotypes a white group it's ok?

But if a white person stereotypes a black group they're racist?

Any decent network would have removed him from the air. Fox still might. Rupert is still counting how many African-Americans tune in to Fox.

It's not that bad. I really think he was taken out of context. He also obviously used a poor choice of words.

Even Matt Lauer stuck up for Bill when interviewing Media Matters on the Today Show. Even after all the ass rippings Bill has gave MSNBC and NBC News.

Plus, Bill's had plenty of Black commentators on the show (Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Juan Williams) and none of them are calling for his dismissal.

This isn't a Don Imus case.

I was hoping that Juan's liberalness and skin color would overcome Rupert's tokeness. If Bill had really said something racial that was really offensive I wouldn't think someone like Juan would look past that for Rupert.

There are other jobs besides Fox News. Juan doesn't need Fox News. No one at Fox News needs Fox News, not even O'Reilly.

As long as you refuse to recognize the subliminal (but no less pernicious and disturbing) condescending racism the Bill O'Reilly's of the world propagate, there sadly is no reaching you.

Billo went for dinner at Sylvia's in Harlem. He perhaps expected to see pimpmobiles parked up and down the block, knife fights in the alley, dope deals going down in a graffiti-defaced washroom and negros shouting obscenities at one another over grits and pig's feet. He was pleasantly surprised to find the atmosphere not only civilized but cordial, and arrived at the generous conclusion that blacks could run a food and beverage place as efficiently as Italians or Irish.

They aren't, after all, all of them foul-mouthed, cop-hating, wife-beating, child-abandoning deadbeats -- some are even beginning to think for themselves.

I can't think of why such stellar performers as Sharpton and Jackson would choose to ignore an opportunity to shine a light on the inveterate ignorance (that apparently is not the dying anachronism I thought it) of far too many whites that has plagued blacks since they were dragged out of Africa in chains and sold at auction like cattle. As far as Williams is concerned, I can only surmise he knows who allows him a two-minute platform each Sunday morning to vent his liberal spleen in the company of neocons, and that he also is very aware of who signs the paycheck.

Then sadly there also is no reaching Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Juan Williams or that black caller from St. Louis who almost brought a tear to Billo's eye. Hey I'm not saying that Bill isn't a closet racist. He could be. We all could be. With your vivid description of pigs feet and grits you could be.

I'm just saying that Media Matters, as usual, is making a matter out of nothing. Driven only by their hatred for O'Reilly and you're doing the same and it's weak and sad.

Maybe, JUST maybe, that because this isn't turning out to be the Imus spectacle you want it to be; that because Sharpton isn't marching outside of Fox News right now, that it really isn't the big deal you are making it out to be.

That maybe just possibly, your thinking out of your disgust for Billo and not for what really happened.

Did you listen to the whole hour on the Radio Factor? My gut says no.

While we're ascribing motivation, do you think maybe a little hero worship is affecting your analysis of the situation? None of us enjoy having our illusions questioned or watching our idols crumble.

O'Reilly should have been a man, admitted to brain lock, and issued an apology for his insensitive remarks. Instead, the egomaniac is carrying out a whining vendetta against the media. Billo has issued a fatwa against everyone -- literally. And, sadly, you seem to have swallowed the bait -- hook, line and sinker.

The last person in public life I recall acting similar to O'Reilly was finally hauled off to bedlam in a straight jacket. Remember the late Senator from Wisconsin, Joseph McCarthy? He died in the nut house.

I hope you regain your sense of perspective before you slip even more and join them in a shared lunacy.

If there were 1000 people marching outside of Fox News led by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson demanding Billo's dismissal and I still felt that he did nothing wrong then yeah, that would clearly be my "hero worship" kicking in.

The fact that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson aren't marching to his dismissal speaks volumes on how much this issue really is a non-issue. Those two usually can't wait to sic themselves on someone for something stupid.

But this isn't the case. Not by far.

Even earlier in this thread I said that all it looked like going by what Media Matters wrote was that he was stereotyping black Americans. After listening to the whole hour of the radio factor I take that back, he wasn't stereotyping at all from his point of view.

He definitely could of put his point across in a better way. But it wasn't racial at all.

Bill O\'Reilly Deserves Applause

Obviously there is no changing your mind on this out of your pure discontent for O'Reilly, so let's put it to rest.

You hijacked my thread!! This thread was about Hillary for president!! Not O'Reilly!!

Bullshit! This thread was never about Clinton. It was from the beginning about your "hero".

Perhaps you've noticed that not a single reply to your post pertains to Clinton - not from her supporters, nor her detractors on this forum. They stayed away because they knew the real topic was "My Hero", as you describe him.

Oh, and about listening to a "whole hour on the Radio Factor?", no one but a "hero" worshipper could.

An analogy: Most people, who come upon a runover skunk when they're driving down the interstate don't stop for an hour to savor the smell. Same principle applies to your "hero".

Jim.

Actually, I really did think it was about Hillary Clinton. I posted the article to show that even the right is beginning to get nervous about her and it is a very strong possibility that we shall finally have a woman in the white house.

It's unfortunate that some of you would rather choose to talk about or attack the writer than the topic of the post or article. Weak.

Inability to follow a conversation? I don't get it.

I posted on Hillary and everyone talks about O'Reilly. Who has a problem following conversations here?

My GF probably has the IQ of Forrest Gump so she doesn't point much out to me.

God forbid I have hero's that you guys don't approve of. I need to start making a list of new PCQ&A rules. If I want to ask a question to someone, I have to run it by James first for approval. If I want to post an update to a thread I have to run it by Chewy for approval. If I want to look towards someone as a hero I have to run it by you for approval.

Do you see how inane this is?

I'm sure it didn't get by you though that Billo is hardly my hero, I was saying it tongue in cheek.

And I made my point about following conversations when I posted about Hillary and EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT OREILLY!!!! Who gives a damn if he really is my hero!!!!

Again, I can only see how this displays poorly on those who disregarded the meat of the article or Hillary for president based on who "my heros" are.

But then again. Thinking back on some threads. I can remember some here posting videos and articles written by Olbermann and me lambasting Olbermann instead of the article. So I can see how some of you can look past the content of the article based on how much you dislike the writer.

Edit: I was just going over it again, and the whole thread was on topic (about the article), until James switched gears in post number 4 to go after the author of the article instead of the article.

I stand my ground. I didn't hijack my own thread in the original post!

You and Billo make a great pair, Whippersnapper.

I doubt either of you have ever conceded a point of argument or admitted a mistake (no matter how minor) without providing at least a half-dozen rationalizations and then supplementing each of the rationalizations with as many more rationalizations.

I have to admit, you have all the bases covered -- to argue with you is much like pissing into a whirlwind.

You are a thoroughly amusing fellow.

I have many times here because unlike you I don't know it all and I'm not too proud to admit it. I very much enjoy my time here with you all as I know that there is a lot I can learn from your knowledge.

I still have yet to see you admit defeat in an argument when you're clearly in the wrong. And Shelly even pointed it out before that it's against human nature to admit you're wrong.

As for the GF, she wouldn't even know how to access the internet much less this thread. And besides, lets call it payback for her calling me a fat-ass about my chairmat.

Quoting Ronald Reagan "There you go again". I had no problem figuring out the real subject once I saw your link.

Do whatever you wish with your links but realize naming them "Link" is about the same as titling a post in the Computer forum "HELP!!!"

I realize that "link" is vague, but if how a link is worded can totally detract from the whole subject of the post I'll stick with "Link" or other vague terms as to not add to that detraction.

You weren't "unfairly targeted" - We've all said "stupid stuff" (your words) and been called on it. Almost by definition, saying "stupid stuff" then being called on it, means we were fairly targeted.

All Fox News contributors get a paycheck. Since Juan Williams is regularly on Fox News and not just on Sundays, he receives that paycheck regularly.

As usual, everybody's in the wrong but Billo. The ignorant old subliminal racist is discovering the hard way that blacks indeed can (and -- here's news -- always could) think (and speak) for themselves.

My but how that big condescending baby can squirm and whine! The only thing that should be coming out of his blubbering lips is an apology for his arrogant insensitivity. A truly pathetic performance. Some hero...

Leading Indicators Point Down for GOP

Sep 30, 7:49 AM (ET)

By DAVID ESPO

WASHINGTON (AP) - It is gallows humor time for Republicans in Congress, where one lawmaker jokes that "there's talk about us going the way of the Whigs," the 19th century political party long extinct.

"That's not going to happen," Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., hastens to add, although a little more than a year before the 2008 election, the major leading political indicators still point downward for a party abruptly turned out of power in 2006.

Fundraising for Republican campaign organizations lags. That is strikingly so in the House, where the party committee spent more than it raised in each of the past two months, reported only $1.6 million in the bank at the end of August and a debt of nearly $4 million.

Democrats reported $22.1 million in the bank and a debt of slightly more than $3 million.

Candidate recruitment has been uneven, particularly in the Senate, where Republicans must defend 22 of the 34 seats on the ballot next year. Democrats boast top-tier challengers for GOP-held seats in Colorado, Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine, Minnesota and Oregon.

Republicans have yet to put forward a prominent challenger for any Democratic-held seat, although an announcement is expected soon in Louisiana.

Additionally, nine Republicans in the House and three in the Senate have announced plans to retire. Some of those leaving are in midcareer, when a departure often signals pessimism about the prospects for regaining the majority. Democratic retirements total two to date - both are House members who are running for the Senate.

"The Democrats will continue to be the majority party in the House and Senate and Hillary Clinton will make history by being the first woman president" in 2008, predicts Rep. Ray LaHood, one of three Illinois Republicans to announce his retirement so far.

What makes LaHood's prediction stand out is his willingness to say it publicly.

Numerous other Republican lawmakers, aides and strategists said Democrats appear headed for two more years in power in Congress, but they declined to say so on the record.

Despite their difficulties, Republicans are not deep in the minority. A switch of 16 seats would give them control of the House next year; a change of one or two seats could deliver the Senate.

Despite the GOP's worst defeat since the Watergate era of the 1970s, Republican Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma said recently, "We have more seats than Ronald Reagan had on his best day."

He added that Republicans have a better chance of winning a House majority in 2008 than they do of capturing the Senate or the White House. Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, chairman of the GOP senatorial committee, offered no response.

But Cole's job performance as head of the House GOP political arm is under internal challenge. In a recent private leadership meeting, Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, sought the dismissal of the group's two top campaign aides, saying the committee lacked aggressiveness.

Cole refused and said he would quit first before firing the staff. Boehner, the party leader, backed down, at least temporarily, but may yet seek to install a senior aide at the committee. The officials who discussed the events did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss private conversations.

After a long turn in power in Congress, LaHood and other Republicans say the change in fortunes is partly the result of historical cycles. "The American people like a change," he said.

At the same time, President Bush's approval is stuck in the mid-30s and the Iraq war remains unpopular with the public.

Nor have the ethics woes that plagued the party in last year's elections abated. Corruption investigations swirl around Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens and California Rep. John Doolittle. To the particular distress of party leaders, Idaho Sen. Larry Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct last summer in an airport men's room sex sting operation and has yet to make good on an earlier pledge to resign.

Stevens and Doolittle deny all wrongdoing, as does Craig, who has asked a Minnesota judge to permit him to withdraw his guilty plea.

Polls, too, chart the decline of the Republicans.

A recent Gallup poll reported that 59 percent of those surveyed have an unfavorable impression of the Republican Party. By a margin of 47-42 percent, they said Democrats will do a better job of protecting against terrorism and military threats. Asked which party would better maintain prosperity, the majority preferred the Democrats, 54-34.

Despite their woes, numerous Republicans say they may have weathered the worst of it.

The race for the 2008 presidential nomination may sort itself out as early as February, they say, giving the party a new face months before the elections.

"Whoever it is, it won't be George W. Bush," said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind. "I deeply admire the president, but many Americans have a somewhat unmovable impression of the president at this point," he added.

Others predict Clinton will win her party's nomination for the White House and say her polarizing effect on the voters will benefit GOP candidates in swing areas currently held by Democrats.

"A Clinton candidacy would help energize Republicans to go out and vote in down-ballot races," said Glen Bolger, a Republican pollster working in House and Senate campaigns. "It will help the Republican case for divided government."

Pence also said the military situation in Iraq is improving, and that a looming spending struggle between Bush and the Democrats should help reassure conservative voters who have become disaffected.

But efforts to draw clear distinctions with the Democrats can cut both ways.

Senate Republicans from New Hampshire, Maine, Oregon and Minnesota, who face particularly tough races in 2008, all voted in recent days for a children's health care bill that Bush has pledged to veto.

"I just do not understand his decision, and I think it would be terrible," said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. She faces a challenge from Rep. Tom Allen, D-Maine.

Your attempt to get the thread back on topic doesnt seem to be working very well ! However you made a good post, and I am inclined to agree with much of it. Not to sure about a Hilliary Presidency.I still believe it is to soon to call. On the weekends I hang out at the farm, some work, but mostly riding 4 wheelers ,and jawing with the 18 to 22 men that show up there every weekend, of the crew, only 2 of the group have indicated a vote for Hilliary.(I am not one of them)In any event, if this is an indicator, this is not in line with the current polls that put her ahead. So I guess I will just say " wait and see.

Sorry, Bob, I'm bored and I was trying desperately to be humorous. No offense intended. I too once drove a four-wheeler -- it was a bicycle with training wheels but, none-the-less...

But, you know, Gallup and Zogby and Fox Noise and CNN and all those guys and more set up strict parameters for conducting polls, and then you hang out with a bunch of manure-tossing, white-bread friends of a weekend, take a mini poll, and conclude from that a national trend is endemic and irreversible... Who in the hell are those two guys who are thinking of voting for Hillary? What do they do for a living? Is one of them a United States Senator who hangs out in public restrooms and the other an interior decorator?

I know, I'm over the top again. But I'm bored.

I plead guilty -- I am constantly in search of a good argument. I've spent a good part of my life in search of such gems. They flow the blood. I argue often, and at each and every opportunity -- often with some here who share a similar bent. All give as good as they take, and there is a Whippersnapper here who would outlast God Almighty in a filibuster. Great stuff...

I too don't understand the mindset of the moderators (and don't really wish to), except that, from my observation, they are perhaps individuals of differing opinion and so approach each circumstance from their own perspective. Perhaps you would prefer a collective mindset among them, one that protects you from the perceived bullying.

When you present a thought here, you, at the same time and often in the same breath, apologize for it, perhaps it should cause offense to some. Fine, that's you're MO. But when, more often than not, someone calls you out, you either disappear or plead for arbitration.

This forum is described as being off-topic and thus defines itself, and hopefully it is open for all types of discourse, from wishing each other Happy Birthday to ripping each other a new one when the circumstance dictates or (in my case) the opportunity is too good to resist.

I insinuate myself here and express myself here at my own risk. I ask no quarter and give none.

Don't call for teacher, Bob -- it will win no Brownie points except among those of similar mind who raise their hand at end of Friday class to inform the teacher she has assigned no homework for the weekend.

You love to wave the bullshit banner and do it often, but you offer very little constructive thought to fill the hole you feel your dissenters have left in the social order.

I'll borrow a page from your book and apologize to you the day you stop apologizing for yourself.

Though informal "polls like bobs are no real indication of trends, I still have some serious doubts about Hillary being electable.

Although this is probably the best chance she will ever have, what with the dissatisfaction with the Republican party, even by their usual constituency, religious conservatives, I suspect a lot of her support is for her husband. Bill Clinton could have won a third term hands down if it were allowed, and there are a lot of voters hoping for a Bill by proxy presidency.

Hillary is the most polarizing candidate I can remember running, and her unfavorables are about equal to her favorables amongst the electorate.

Surely, he Republicans would prefer to run against her than any other potential Democratic candidate, which is why even Rupert Murdoch is promoting her candidacy. Watch for a lot of Republican Primary voters to temporarily change party and vote for her in the primaries.

You can expect the Republicans to stoke up the same kind of personal smear campaign by phony front groups, and fear mongering that they used against Kerry in 2004, and in many of the congressional races that year. These guys are desperate, and it will be the dirtiest campaign in years. By the time election day comes we will all be sick to our stomachs.

Shelly

It's like that every year!!

Seriously I don't think she's electable either. It's the only way for the Republicans to get into the White House. Fox News has been noticeably pushing her. I've never heard Sean Hannity say a nice thing about her until recent months.

Still though, November '08 is too far away too call.

Hey, lighten up, Whippersnapper! I'm not the least bit interested in "reading" you -- anyhow, I'm more into novels than short stories.

I meant "you" in the plural sense -- the Rupert's and Sean's of the world.

You can call me whatever the hell you want as long as you don't bring my mother into it.
