"The iPod vs. Samsung" Sat Mar-11-06 04:39 PM by _Chewy_
Here's one for Laurie for asked about opinions on iPods a while back. Laurie you've probably purchased one by now, but for anyone else who is thinking about going out and buying that latest craze (the iPod nano) - here's a good review.
I think that is a cool Samsung player. I did already purchase a Creative Zen Nano Plus player. It's a 1GB flash player with a radio and recorder. I'm pretty satisfied with it. I don't need alot of bells and whistles or a ton of space.
I'm glad you got one you're satisfied with. I haven't bought one just because I'm still busy paying off debts, but that article does make a good point. As long as iPods have been around, you'd think one of their competitors would come up with a great alternative. Up until now, no one has come close to competing.
I'll probably purchase one next year.... that Samsung looks like a good model. Especially since they hired the same software engineer who did the iPod.

Hi Laurie
What do you mean by 'pretty satisfied'? What would you change if you could? I just got a nice bonus and am planning on buying some sort of MP3 player. It doesn't have to be tiny like IPOD, but has to be 'senior' friendly. Boss has Creative Zen JukeBox 60 Gigs and stores audio books on it. She loves it and it works well, so I am familiar with the Creative products. Thanks.
I am so often amused (and just because I'm a "Senior" does not imply or infer senility) when some young person gets on my "4" Train car, then takes three to five minutes adjusting-tuning-fiddling with their "XXXTune" players.
Also funny is the head bobbing and body swaying that goes on while most times the face looks...vacant; somewhat or somehow...challenged.
I say 'senior' friendly because as you know many tech things today have one button that does 25 things and usually the 'thing' doesn't come with straight-forward instructions. I'm too busy to learn 25 steps just to get the thing to play.
I have a little cheapy MP3 player given to me by someone and I can use it, but it's so frustrating to have to cycle thru this that and the other thing just to hear a tune.
I wish my Creative Zen Nano Plus had a bigger screen. The tiny window only has one line for the song and one line for the length of time the song is playing. The text is pretty small too. You're not able to see a whole list of albums/CDs or a whole list of songs to pick from. So you have to scroll song by song or album by album to see the next line. But the player is smaller than a cigarrette lighter. It comes with a very short USB cord to transfer music from your PC to the player. But you can use any cord in it's place that's longer. The earphones that come with it are really huge and keep falling out of my ears. I now have some decent ones to take their place. I did purchase rechargeable AAA batteries for it. I've found out that the batteries last a really long time in the player. I'm impressed.
I probably won't buy something that small as I'd be losing it all the time. The little MP3 player that I'm using now (doesn't even have a brand name on it) has a screen about the size of a standard postage stamp sitting horizontally. I can see the song and the artist and the time without my glasses, but can't make out the 25 icons along the top that I must scroll thru.
I did a drag and drop to the player same as a flash drive. The sound from this one is absolutely terrific and it even came with some external speakers. The ear buds are hard plastic and hurt my ears so I would definitely look for something different - or more comfortable.
