"windows xp forgot password,i'm in deep s*&^% Help!!!!!"
Can anyone tell me alternate way to reset retrieve password that my girlfriend has forgot. She didn't create the password disk or the other tool. Trying for 2 days to remember. I don't want to have to do a clean install as Microsoft website suggest. They indicate a method by booting to safe mode and choosing admin account to do it that way, but that's the problem her acct was also the admin as well. Can anyone think of any other methods?????
If a password was set for the Administrator account, you'll need to know that also. (Possible that a blank password was used and if so, you're laughing). If you can log on as Administrator in safe mode (in home edition safe mode and recovery console are the only ways to log on as that user specifically), any user's password can be reset.
The only complication comes, if the Encrypted File System (EFS, which only could occur on an NTFS filesystem) was used on any directories by the user. Changing the user's password will cause them to lose access to that data. Not likely that's in use, but I'm warning you about it anyway. It's not available under Home Edition (which I'm assuming you have)

with a blank password. If you get logged on, go to Computer Management in Administrative Tools, and under Local Users and Groups, Users, highlight the user account, view properties and reset the user's password.

I booted to safemode and the admin and her acct was showing, selected admin, and it required password. Using a blank password didn't work. Shit!!!! So i went to that website list for password recovery and that will be my last hope.... man i hope this one works...

None of the methods worked... I couldn't get around the admin password... found a pretty good download to restore which chester supplied the link, but the demo wouldn't work for me... I have a question, can i try to reinstall Windows XP ontop of the current installation? I remember in 98 i reinstalled ontop and it repaired the version and everything was fine, but that was win98.....
