Below is a brief introduction to and explanation of the UD/PC911 team.

Here at PC911 we help people who have computer problems.

In April 2001 we formed the United Devices PC911 Cancer Fighting Team.

Members of the UD/PC911 team have downloaded a program(UD Agent) that does cancer research.

The UD Agent processes data contained in a "work unit" that is downloaded when UD Agent is installed.

When the work unit is completed, the results are sent via the Internet to the United Devices servers and another work unit is downloaded to your computer.

This all happens in the background while you go about your regular computer work.

The UD Cancer research program is groundbreaking, historic, and literally life-saving work, which is why we are doing it.

To let you have an idea of how much Cancer research processing you are doing, UD has established a "points" system. You earn points for processing work units.

The amount of points you earn is determined by how fast your computer processor is, the amount of memory installed in your computer, the amount of hard drive space allocated to the UD program, and the speed of your network connection.

All this info about your computer is used to establish the amount of points you receive when processing work units. Each time you finish a work unit you are given points depending on how long it took to finish it.

Naturally, points competition has arisen. We compete with each other. We compete with other individual teams. We compete with all the UD teams in the world.

That's why all those statistics are listed in the first post in this thread.

As of this writing (4-15-02) we have 206 members.We have earned 7.6 million points. Our team is ranked 69th in the world out of more than 24,000 teams.

We are in a fierce competition with another team (BitBenderTech). Team BBTech is almost 220,000 points ahead and we are trying to catch them.

We need your help to do more Cancer research, and to climb as high as we can in the UD points rankings.

Our goals right now are to gain one new member every day, reach at least 250 members, earn 100,000 points per day, and beat the Panty Chasers.

Hello Mickoz, no the Panty Chasers simply changed their name to "BitBenderTech" thus the BBT you see in the chart.

Thanks for that Spezi. We have certainly gained some points on them over the last few weeks or so. They are nearly in sight.

But really, I wouldn't label them as defectors...they contributed to your team so they should be applauded! Much like how we lost some folks but hey it's all good...shake their hands for their efforts and wish them well!

You do realize if we ever did join forces we would be a huge force to reckon with out there. Fantasy I know...but swerlie thought of it first.

Spezi, you're almost at your first 100K, you just get down with your badself.

My TBird has been down for just about two whole days, and that sucks. The transplant went well ( for my main machine ), but I'm having a tougher time getting Server installed on the TBird. On my second try as we speak. I got it installed, and Active Directory and the DNS server up. Then I gummed it all up. So made some more changes and started fresh tonight.

Bottom line is I want to get this up and running. Can't crunch if I don't have it installed! That one machine has been responsible for 60,085 points, and I want it to continue to contribute.

I'm real proud of all you folks. We have a hell of a team.

I would like to thank all the new members for joining UD/PC911. You are all welcome and we really appreciate your joining the team.

I have noticed that some of our new members have not contributed any points.

Let me make it clear that I am not criticizing anyone who has not earned any points. That is not the reason that I am writing this.

The reason I am posting this is to let any new member know that if you need any help, it is available right here in this thread.

This thread is posted to PC911 every night. Partly it is to update people on the UD/PC911 team progress. Partly it is to pat people on the back for jobs well-done. Partly it is to rank on the BitBenderTech team. Partly it is for recruiting new members. Partly it is just for gossip. But the part I am concerned with tonight is helping fellow team-mates out.

We will do everything we can to help new members get started. I don't care what the problem is or what the question is.

We all had problems starting out with UD and it is all too easy just to say -To hell with this junk- and move on to something else.

But, with just a little effort you can get on to the satisfaction of turning in those work units on a regular basis, knowing that you have done your part in doing research contributing to the cure of Cancer.

So, please, if you need any help or have any questions, just let us know. Someone will help you.

I've been having problems also. I finally got a couple of results turned in a couple of hours ago.

I have not had any luck in the last two hours.

I went to the UD forum and they know about the problem. All we can do is be patient and wait until they fix it.

It sure is aggravating.

When I saw my machine keep backing off, first place I went for an answer was right here! New members, you have questions, the folks here have the answers! Come on and join us in the fight against cancer!

Sometimes things that are worthwhile require a bit of effort and commitment. If you are having problems of any kind, or feel discouraged in any way, just remember...As Dubber and others have so aptly stated...help is always at hand, here in this nightly thread and on this PC911 forum.

I for one have received much help and guidance from lots of folks here, including CG, most or all the other moderators and my fellow members like Vitalt, Spezi, Serlv and of course the hardest worker on our PC911 UD Team, Dubber!

To me the teamwork is the main point here, we work together and help each other in this Most Important work that we are doing with our PC's. Of all the 'stuff' that I have done with my computer, nothing else compares, except maybe some family history work that I have done...but, that ties in as well because several of my family members have died from cancer.

Anyways...enough serious talk... if you need help with UD or anything else, just ask here and you will likely get your answer. If you want to visit some FAQ pages, just smash the Foot, or go to Dubbers site.
In the meanwhile...lets keep pulling together so we can keep IA & his BBTech minions on the RUN!!! }>
