Do you REALLY have a valid reason to disable it, or is it just that you don't want Microsoft controlling you? You can always leave it and set some other browser to be the default and set Adobe Reader DC to be the default program for PDF files. Then delete shortcuts for Edge from the Desktop and Taskbar. It's always a good idea to have a second or even third browser available in case one gets infected or otherwise messed up.

If you absolutely have to get rid of it, try these steps:

Try to avoid using third-party uninstallers.

I've used Revo Uninstaller-free version-for years, without the slightest difficulty, but I agree, there's no need to remove Edge, even if you're using a different browser.

I have nothing against third-party uninstallers when used for third-party programs like junkware. I am leery of using the third party uninstallers for any Microsoft apps or any antivirus apps because these may be very tightly integrated with the operating system.

Thanks Martin for your reply. I'm back after being released from hospital from my respiratory issues. Yes, it annoys th hell out of me that Win10 is even more self-serving for MS that previous versions. Of course I've had multiple browsers for a long time in the event of problem with the default Opera. I don't want to muck up the system with workarounds anymore, so I'll forget Edge and move on.

Found a free app to remove MS Edge from loading. Works like a charm. Edge Blocker v 1.6

I used version 1.5 to block the old version of Edge. I created a handy shortcut to Edge Blocker so that I could Block or UNblock Edge instantly at any time.

I haven't updated to 1.6 as I haven't seen a need to block Edge Chromium. Perhaps I will if Edge tries any more "helpful" tricks to take over IE.

Jim.

Version 1.6 also has the option of creating a Desktop shortcut, so the app can be turned on and off as needed.
