"FireFox update"
Fri Nov-17-17 07:58 PM by bobbo

I just updated FireFox to ver 57.0 for 64-bit and on restarting found that Avast antivirus had been installed. Not sure whether it was part of the new version, but uninstalled it as I have adequate AV protection, i.e. SuperAntiSpyware, Defender, Spyware Blaster, and MalwareBytes.

Edit: In retrospect, I think it was a pop-up for installing Avast.

The new FireFox is very fast, but it changed most of my tabs and added new tabs. I would like to delete the new tabs and restore the old ones.
Help!

Edit: I was able to dump the additional tabs, but can't find my old ones. Will keep trying and report back.

Sorry, don't understand this. A tab is just a web page. To "find your old tabs", surely all you need to do is open a fresh tab and navigate to the web page you want.

Paul, I was referring to the icon tabs which appear when you press the +
symbol:

There used to be twice as many in the older version which was a handy short cut to my most frequently used sites.

See if this page helps.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page

10 sites seems to be the maximum.

From https://www.howtogeek.com/333230/why-firefox-had-to-kill-your-favorite-extension/

Still missing an extension you depend on? This Google document is tracking several popular extensions, and provides alternatives to several common ones. This list is also useful.

Helpful, but not 100% accurate. For example Lastpass was ready to go from day 1, and for some time before that.
