"AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb Quad-Core 3.4 GHz "

Is Phenom II X4 965 still viable for gaming because I have a inspiron 570 and was going to make for gaming or should I just buy a new pc?

Depends on the games really, newer ones you might end up with a cpu bottleneck if you're using a higher end video card. Power supply might be an issue with a higher end card as well. What card are you planning?

If you read the recent reviews of this processor on NewEgg you'll see that the general opinion is that it is outdated. I also looked at specs for an Inspiron 570, that's fairly old hardware too. It looks like it will handle a maximum of 8GB of RAM, it's got onboard video, I'm not sure if it even has a slot for a PCIe video card it looks like it does have a PCIe x16 slot. Also if you haven't already upgraded the power supply, you'll probably need to if you want to install a video card that requires auxiliary power connections. If you have the money, I would recommend building a new computer.

It would help if you answer jbmcmillan's question about what games you intend to play. It would also help if you told us what your budget is for a "gaming" computer.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

We can't give you a reasonable answer until you tell us what games you want to play so we can find the system requirements. If you just want to play Microsoft Solitaire Collection, then your Inspiron 570 will do fine without upgrades. If you want to play action games, we need some titles or system requirements.
