"Disabling 8.3 Filename Creation"

I have replaced my HD with an SSD and it is recommended for performance and optimization to disable 8.3 Filename Creation.

Supporting legacy MS-DOS file-naming conventions will reduce performance of an NTFS volume. Unless absolutely necessary, 8.3 filename creation should be disabled.

I'm not sure whether to do this as it also warns:

Note: Although disabling 8.3 file name creation increases file performance under Windows, some applications (16-bit, 32-bit, or 64-bit) may not be able to find files and directories that have long file names.

I just wondered if anyone here has done this or has any comment to add.
My current thoughts are just to be on the safe side and leave it as it is.
Thanks.

Not hard to do.

Is your operating system/bios in AHCI mode? It should be if you are using a ssd for best performance. If it isn't there are ways to install the drivers for AHCI before you switch it on in the bios. Here is for Win 10.

Are 8.3's disabled, by default, in Win10?
(I have no idea.)
If it were so important, don't you think MS would have done this by default?

Disabling 8.3's has been an option, since about forever, it seems.
It's probably on that tweakers website (name long forgotten, & pretty much immaterial, as most all of the "tweaks" were eventually picked up, implemented, by MS with XP's SP 2 & then 3).

Have you ever noticed or do you now notice "performance" improvements with / without 8.3 enabled?
Have you ever noticed or do you now notice "performance" differences between a 5400 & 7200 HDD, or a HDD & a SSD?
(I've never used a SSD, so maybe there is some difference in program loading.)

Optimization. Of what? When you do a search for a file name, Windows | Find, is now speedier, or is it the same dog (literally & figuratively - fido, does display on my XP when I Winkey+F) as its always been?

So I google, "Supporting legacy MS-DOS file-naming conventions will reduce performance of an NTFS volume. Unless absolutely necessary, 8.3 filename creation should be disabled." & the first hit says:

https://helgeklein.com/blog/2008/09/why-disabling-the-creation-of-83-dos-file-names-will-not-improve-performance-or-will-it/?PageSpeed=noscript

(Dated, & not really anything of substance there. Anyhow...)

I look at it like, if there is an issue that I'm seeing, & if disabling 8.3 fixes that issue, then I'll look into it. Otherwise...

Performance.
Remove your antivirus & tell me if you see a performance difference - before & after.
Performance.
Remove Windows "eye candy" & tell me if you see a performance difference - before & after.
Performance.
I was at a Win10 computer & it had all kinds of trash running in the background (& I'm sure 99% of Win10 computers do likewise). Try disabling that crap & tell me if you see a performance difference - before & after.

I'm on Windows 7.
The SSD is obviously a lot quicker than the HD but I don't have a very fast processor so that is my limitation now.
I've decided to just leave things as they are.
According to some reports if an SSD has on average 50GBs of data written every day then it should last 12 years. I've been monitoring mine and it only averages 8GBs per day!! There again it could blow up tomorrow.
Other reports state much bigger figures.
The way they work though is fascinating.
