"Aarg, windows can be annoying"

My MS Surface Pro only has a 64 gig C drive which has always been just fine until the one big Windows 10 update came out.

I kept putting it off & putting it off until finally today I got sick of the reminder. It told me I didn't have enough hard drive space & one option was to connect an external hard drive. I'm like "allright, I can do that" & dragged out a 3 terrabyte external hard drive & hooked it up.

Now, the DL worked just fine & it downloaded for 1/2 hour only to tell me in the end that I needed more space on my C drive (I have 2.5 gigs free) to install the update.

Since it's not really possible to install a bigger C drive (It's soldered to the motherboard & the screen is glued on) I guess I will be seeing that nag screen fro a while longer (I LOVE the Surface & have no plans to replace it)

You're going to have to clear some space anything less than 15% is not optimal.

Not happening, it works just fine exactly how it is(and I use it for everything) so I'm leaving it alone.

lol ok then but you realize those nags are going to keep happening and I wouldn't go much lower in free space or it won't work fine.

I haven't gone any lower in free space in months & don't intend to. I have it all set up with all the apps I use & don't need to install anything else.
'
I have a 256 gig CF card in it for BU/saving stuff etc. so I'm all set for now.

Have you deleted your restore points and created a new one? They can accumulate and you could always put a nice size SD card in it. You might have to move some stuff around but I would always keep space for upgrades on the C: drive.

Alright, I went & deleted all the restore points & a bunch of other stuff & then told Windows to check for updates.

It told me the only update available was for Windows Defender?? I can't win I guess.....

Did you check to see that the update didn't install despite the limited space? That might explain why there's now only an update for Defender.

Jim.

Alright, I found the update but it's still telling me I don't have enough hard drive space. It says I need 8 gigs, I have 9.8 free so I give up at this point.

What is the size of your Program Files (x86). Move some programs over to the CF card, ones that you can afford to run a little slower. From what I understand Win 10 is the last Microsoft OS and will be a constant rolling upgrade. That would put you in a pretty bad position if you are full now on the C: Drive.

Maybe move them over, do the update, and then move them back.

Jim.

What big update are you talking about. My Surf pro 3 running Win10, the C drive is using 17.3 Gig.

Is it the creator's edition?
