"Router has had to be reset twice in the last week and a half. "

I have a Netgear N750 Model #WNDR430, whick is 2 years old. I purchased it from Staples on January 24th, 2015. Modem is a Surfboard SB6121. I reset the router tonight. The equipment is in my room; I live in a share rental, and the others use my wifi to connect with on the guest network I set up. It's fine when I'm here, I can just reset it, but I'm going back to New York in a month and I don't want the router going out while I'm gone. The question is, is this a sign that the router is on the way out, and if that's so, any recommendations? The N750 was $100. I want to be able to set up a guest network on it. I haven't done any checking myself yet, but will.

Steve

I have a Surfboard 6580. Periodically - every month or two - it loses its ability to transmit wirelessly and has to be "reset" by unplugging it from the wall outlet. The wired connections continue to work despite no Wi-Fi.

I doubt there's anything wrong with your router that would require you to replace it.

Maybe there could be a creative way for your neighbors to remotely reset the router by shutting off power to it, and then turning the power back on. Maybe something as basic as a long extension cord running out of your home that could be unplugged/plugged in at a neighbors - or maybe there's a more elegant way.

Jim.

Okay, that was several months ago and it's not every few months now, it's last week, now 2 days in a row; so my CURRENT question remains-----should I get a new router? The previous topic was more along the lines of setting out the router for the others in the house (in case) it had to be reset.
