"Annual PCQandA Fundraiser"

Hi all,

It's that time of year. Time for the Annual Fundraiser. As you may or may not know, a site such as PCQandA requires a bit of money to run. We're looking to raise $400 to cover our annual costs.

You can donate via Paypal by clicking on the link below:
https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=jasonalevine%40gmail.com&item_name=Donation+to+PCQandA.com&item_number=PCQ%26A

If you'd rather send a check or a money order (in US Dollars -- sorry, but we can't accept International Money Orders at this time), make it out to Jason Levine and click here for sending instructions (and to send a notification to me that your check is on its way):

http://www.pcqanda.com/mailed-donation.php

Be sure to print out the page that results to include with your check/money order. It will help me identify who the donation comes from. (Otherwise, I can't send a thank you e-mail.)

Curious just how close we are to our goal? Check out the top of this page for the most up-to-date figure. (Payments are added to the total manually, so don't expect the figure to update the minute you make a payment.)

One last note. You'll notice that we didn't have an annual fundraiser last year. That's because our 2015 fundraiser did so well that we were all set for 2016. If we do well enough this time around, we might not need a fundraiser in 2018 either. (Consider it a challenge.)

Thanks in advance, everyone.

- Jason Levine
Please donate to PCQandA!

Hi everyone,

With our fundraiser a mere five days old, we're already halfway there. I think it might be a PCQandA record if we can wrap this up in under 2 weeks. Keep those donations coming in. Every little bit helps. And thanks to those who have already donated!

It's funny how quiet it gets around here at Fundraiser time. I've noticed this in the past. So it's good to see that some things never change.

Let's hurry up and get this over with so things can return to normal. biggrin

Jim.

As you can see, we're a mere $140 away from finishing the fundraiser. I'm thinking of sweetening the pot a bit. Would anyone donate more if I gave away a signed copy of my book to the person who donated the most? (I'd count it pre-Paypal fees so you could donate a second time to up your amount.)

Oops. You're right. The link to my book is: http://www.ghostthiefnovel.com/

And here's a blurb describing it:

Quote:
Murray Gastev is anything but ordinary. He's a thief for hire and a good one at that. He completes his latest job but ends up with far more than just the cash he expected to receive. He finds he now has the ability to pass through walls and float. There are just two small problems: He can't breathe while he 'ghosts' and he can't control where he floats to. With the help of some new friends, Murray might learn to control his powers and may even pull off his biggest heist yet. If he doesn't end up being sliced to ribbons first.

I remember when the annual fund raiser's goal was significantly higher. Due to the value this site provides, the goal should have been accomplished long before now.

At this point, it's been a week since our last donation. We're still only $120 away from our goal. We have enough funds right now to last through October. After that, if no more funds come in, we'd be forced to shut PCQandA down. Please donate what you can to keep this site running.

Hi Shelly.

Let me suggest that you create a "Goodbye" topic and pin it at the top of both forums.

Currently your message is way down in a month-old thread. I'm concerned that your post may not get the attention it deserves.

Jim.

I started this fundraiser post a month ago and I'm happy to report that we've reached our goal. I know we have at least one mailed donation outstanding. Other than that one, you should have received a thank you e-mail from me if you donated. Thanks to everyone who donated. You've helped to keep this site running another year.

Heh, donation sent.

I'm too much of a softie. Despite my semi-conservative views, I have to agree completely with Shelly about Trump. (Is it really true that the average great country only lasts about 200 years? I do not count the Romans who believed in slavery during their entire existence.) Anyway, donation sent, keep on keeping on!

With whips and chains? Maybe you and I have two different views of slavery, let the Creator (not God, too religious of a name, judge the Masters). Anyway, love this site because of its expertise. (And intelligent people, even if you disagree with them, make you think. )

Well, if you get right down to it, I do not know of any ancient society that did not have slavery. They had no machines, so relied on labor from captured or native slaves, It was the only way agrarian societies of any extended size could exist.

You can not impose your "enlighened" notions of behavior upon antiquity. Without slavery no ancient society could have grown and created an extended civilization and we would not even be here. Who are we to decide the rules for them?

I'm far from a "bible thumper" but your post brought to mind Noah (the biblical figure, not my son ) being called a "great man for his time." The implication here was that he was highly flawed but so was everyone else around him. Even though he stood out among his crowd as a good man, he likely wouldn't have been one had he been in a better society.

The lesson here is that we're all products of the society we grow up in. Nobody's perfect and most everyone will likely be judged harshly by history for believing in X when X is shown not to be good later on. All we can do is 1) strive to be the best we can despite any societal pull in the wrong direction and 2) try not to judge historical figures too harshly for their flaws and consider the times they grew up in.
