There is a new tool to download genuine iso's from M$ which could help out someone especially the 10 iso's if you don't want to use the media creation tool.Source article. You can get 7,8.1,10 all editions. One thing it needs Net framework 4.6.1.

This is all still hurting my brain. Why would Joe Average not want to use the Media Creation Tool? I had pretty much decided to go that way, and will be upgrading this coming weekend after much prevaricating.

I agree. The Media Creation Tool is very easy to use.

It's actually very handy for the 7 and 8.1 users as you couldn't get them anywhere else especially after M$ pulled them from Digital River. The tool's good if you like to install the insider builds of 10 and do a clean install. It also downloads faster from these servers .

Hang on. Are you saying the Media Creation Tool can only do clean installs? I want to upgrade. I do NOT want to do a clean install. But I have the problem that my upgrade link appears to be broken.

I assumed jbmcmillan was talking about the new tool mentioned in the OP.
Yes, you can upgrade with the Media Creation Tool. Insert the CD(or USB) media, navigate to it and just run setup.exe.

I would NEVER do an upgrade..Why would you drag remnants of a previous OS to a new??? Clean install is the ONLY way to go.

HP Pro 3500 MT,Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit,Intel I-5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ,4GB Ram,Intel HD 2500 Video(Onboard)

Because in my case it takes about a week to get everything back to as I like it.
And of course, once you are happy with Windows 10 you can remove your old Windows 7/8 via the Control Panel.

I upgraded from 8.1 and I'm still using the same install even with the 1511 upgrade after that and I've had zero problems. That might have been true in the past but the upgrade process to 10 has been the best they have ever done.

Up until now I would have agreed with you, but I have seen so many reports of complete success with this upgrade (including by me with my wife's laptop) that I am 100% prepared to try it.

I also agree with Pcqandaman. Except in my case I would still be catching up with reinstalls quite a few weeks down the track. I have better things to do with my time.

I'm the same it takes me quite a while to get it back to where I like it.This was virtually painless upgrade really.I had been prepared to do a clean install if it hadn't worked out to my satisfaction but it was unnecessary.
