Microsoft has always shoved what ever they want in their OPsystems and
Win8 will be no different. Take it as they serve it or don't take it all.
Many many people will not take it all. I won't be using it. I will just
install it so I know how to configure it for the unfortunate folks that
buy a Pc that has that on it.
On the other side of the fence I will most likely want it on my next phone because that is where it will shine and be loved not on any regular desktop without a touch screen.

It will be nothing but another forced Hardware upgrade only this time Very little of your older system will be able to be used.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talks and bullshit walks.

I wonder if these new machines will be backwards compatible to Win7?
It will all depend on the OEM people to provide a Win7 driver along with the 8. I think there will be more hacking and cracking Win7 than ever before or more than any other OpSystem in History.

In addition to that they will force you through the doors of their app store where they can continue to separate you from your shekel's.

Anyhoo, I'm downloading the W8-Realease Preview right now because I need free OS for a rig I'm scabbing together for crunching.

Yes but so far I've not been able configure the video cards for F@H in Linux, WCG yes but not folding or other projects that use them. I don't need much interaction with it once it's running.

Download's done, gotta go!

Are you talking about using the GPU for F@H processing? Yes that could be an issue in Linux.

Yes and a GPU project I run from time to time in Boinc, Collatz Conjecture, runs flawlessly in Boinc Manager in Windows and seems to gag in Linux or just not start period. Other Boinc projects seem to run well in Linux.

I believe you have to have specific video drivers for that and the manufacturers must not have developed them for Linux.

Nvidia has long developed Linux drivers ATI/AMD not so much.

I didn't specify any particular manufacturer. I just meant that I believe there are a separate set of drivers, even for nVidia, to enable the use of the GPU in processing work units. And whoever makes his video card may not have developed them for Linux, whether it's nVidia or ATI/AMD.

Oh no...it will be far worse...

edit: I actually have Vista on a machine here and am fairly happy with it. Not as happy as I was with XP and not as happy as I am with 7 though. I'm actually getting nervous about when the time comes that I have to start using it. I'm just hoping that by then they will have learned the error of their ways and put out something good if not great.

Vista is not a bad OS. I have Vista on my laptop; and, it works quite well. It did even before Service Packs were released. I never understood the problem people had with Vista.

A lot of people complained about XP when it came out too (maybe not to the extent people complained about Vista). I never understood that either. But, people have loved XP for a good 8-9 years now.

The last OS from Microsoft that was truly bad was ME. 8 is the new ME, not Vista.

What do you mean he's the Doctor? Doctor Who?

ME was bad because it ran like shit. When I say bad like Vista, I mean PR nightmare bad.

Windows 8, will run just as good as Windows 7, but people will hate it on their PC's because it looks like a smartphone OS, instead of a PC OS, and will be difficult to navigate and find stuff with a mouse.

Windows ME was short-lived and sooo 12 years ago. No one remembers it. The pain of Vista is still relatively fresh in people minds.

Edit: Spelling.

Bingo! That's it exactly. When I messed with the previews it "ran" fine. It's the f'n interface. And that you can't have several windows open at once in Metro.

I agree with you 100% I love Vista and still use it on all my machines. My main desktop dual boots Vista 64 with Win7 64. I use Vista most of the time but sometimes boot into Win7 because one of the programs I use won't run in Vista.

I left my Win8 hard drive hooked up to my computer yesterday. When I came home, my Son had come over to play Diablo III, and was having no problem at all with Win8. I asked him about it and he said, "it took me a few minutes, but look, it works just like my Windows phone. Instead of swiping the screen you use the mouse like this....." It makes a lot more sense to me now why they are doing what they are doing. They may still bend to a start menu toggle after this is off the ground. There are millions that do not want to change, and their sales might just reflect that until new computing devices hit the market. I see computers all the time that are still using the win 95 start menu.
