Does me have media streaming enabled cause this maybe?
Couldn't find much when I googled this problem.
Although it seems to be working now. I changed some options.
I'll repost if it acts up again. No joy it stopped half way through and didn't start back for 15 seconds.
Playing Mp3s on a D: partition should be no problem. What are you Using? XP, Vista, or 7. What version of the Media Player are using most would be using 11 in XP or Vista or 12 in 7. If your still on ver 9 or 10 you really need to upgrade that.
First think I would do is go to Windows Update and download all your updates be sure to check the optional updates.
When your beginning to install this hit the little Drop down arrow and select "Lots of Stuff" This will make sure you get any and all the codecs you need. This will also assure you will be able to play anything including the Different types of Video codecs.
I would also check your Partition Drive for bad Sectors or lost clusters. The Drive could be going bad also.

I did use winamp a long time ago. I remove the directory completely out of WMP and when I restarted it found them any way. I thought maybe rebuilding the library might help. I did install the codecs.
I wish I could install and reinstall. I am going to get winamp again, just to verify if my mp3s will play.
Well WMP still hangs. The files play in explorer's preview window.
