First let me thank you all for you infinite patience. I am comfused again. I tried to reinstall Vista again because I was getting many errors.
When I selected the where I wanted it installed to I got the following message.
Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me what is going on, and how I can remedy the situation. Though this is frustrating, I hope I can eventually look back to this as a learning experience.
You trying to install to your Ubuntu partition? If you chose custom install om the bottom there is an options button that should display partitions and format, delete, create etc.
Thanks, I will deal with it late. I need a rest from it. I am also wondering whether my Vista DVD is defective? Is there a way of making that determination?

Will Microsoft give technical help for an OEM version?

In general, no.
Microsoft has in the past been known to offer help correcting Microsoft Update/Windows Update problems and with service pack install issues. Beyond that, Microsoft provides no direct end-user support for OEM versions unless the end-user pays for it as noted by MSU.
My confidence is leaving me. I do not have the knowledge to go on. Vista will not install to any partition. I have a feeling that Ubuntu has somehow caused this.
Vista Installation asks me for a driver. I think that is for formatting the HD, but I am not sure. Would some kind soul please advise me where to go from here.
