A friend told my daughter that there is a free version of Kaspersky anti-virus. I have looked and looked, but cannot find one. All I am finding is free to try, then pay after trial period.

Anyone have any idea if there is such a thing, or am I on a wild goose chase here? LOL

Thanks for any assistance.

That's only for Win7 launch party hosts and attendees not for general release from what I read.

There is a Kaspersky Removal Tool (or perhaps called Kaspersky AVP Tool).

It is an on demand only scanner.
Does not look to allow updates. (You would have to download a newer version. <Believe the updates are daily.>)
Scan options are selectable before starting the scan.

Currently running around 45 MB.

*An install, likely requires a reboot.
*After running the program & exiting, it uninstalls itself, again requiring a reboot.

IMO, this would be used as an alternative to doing an online scan (which I suppose effectively does the same thing, downloading the program to your HDD, extracting & running - under the premise of an "online scan").

Fry's often has Kaspersky/McAfee/Symantec free after rebate(s).
(Rebates may be both offer & upgrade rebates. Read the requirements.)

Free now with free shipping too after $60 rebate(s).
Eh. Shows only (the few & far between) store pickup at the moment.

Double Eh, eh!. Not available at all at the moment. (But they have it frequently enough ...)

Thanks so much everyone.

I thought it sounded too good.

She is leaning towards AVG, since funds are tight.

Thanks again.

AVG is about the worst free AV available. Go with Avira Antivir. It astounds me that AVG is still widely (and incorrectly) considered as a good option.
