"MX700 NiMH batteries"

I've had my MX700 since 6/04...still under warranty.
My problem now is that in the past 2 months I've replaced those batteries 15 times!
When the red light comes on, I place it in the base and let it recharge.
I've called Logitech Tech Support today - on hold for 5 minutes (this was at 11AM EDT), then was finally switched over and nobody 'picked up', Tried several times since then, and the line is busy...only 1 Tech to answer calls???
BTW, these are Duracell Rechargeable DX1500 NiMH 1.2V/2000nAh batteries.
Any MX700 users have suggestions as to what other 'brand' to use? Or what other mAh is good?
Any help on this is appreciated. This is driving me bonkers.
BTW, the Tech Support line is still busy!

When you place the mouse in the charger, does the red LED start blinking? If not, try cleaning the contacts, both on the mouse and the charger. If the red LED isn't blinking, it's not charging. I've found that moistening my finger with a little saliva and rubbing it on the contacts restores the charging function.

I used energizer recharables in my MX700. That mouse became defective (I think it was the left button almost/basically quit working, but don't remember for sure), I went to the logitech forum, posted my problem, and within a day had a replacement arranged. They sent me a new MXrevolution, and didn't have to send back the old one. I'd try the forum instead of the phone.

I still use the old defective mouse as a battery charger, it's much faster than the one that came with my batteries. There have been no problems with that, I'm still on the original set of recharables I bought for the old camera, and eventually replaced the ones that came with that mouse, while it worked. I'm probably retiring it for that use though, as I got a new camera (Canon SD880).

Might be something wrong with the mouse/charger. I think I've heard good things about Eneloop (?) batteries, and Sony branded ones (which were on a good sale for a short time a couple days ago). I got the Energizers at Sam's Club.

Other thing, I kept the mouse on the charger when not in use/at the end of the day, and I never let the light turn red. It worked that way for years.

Thanks for the info.
I FINALLY got through to Tech Support. They would send me out an MX Revolution...if I would Fax a copy of my original receipt. That I can't do...no fax capabilities on this pc (HSI). I made and scanned a copy of the receipt...but it is so faded that the scanned copy is bad/poor to read. The Tech was going to send an email to me so that I could attach that copy...but I'm still waiting for that email from him...and it's been nearly 1 hr.
As to the Logitech Forum, what section/title is the post I need to look for?

I'm thinking it was just in this forum below, should be I think. I described the problem in detail, and the first response I got was from a logitech support person, stating a replacement was needed and they directed me what to send where/how, but I don't remember the details, of course, receipt was one of them,
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board?board.id=hardware_mice

You could also email them, and provide all the info in the form, it allows attachments.
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?

I like the forum route for some reason, then a person/everyone can see the replies, although either will work, the responses I got were quick, but it's been a while back.

I don't know if you want to wait on what you already started, "they" might get a little confused if you go multiple routes.

The revolution is a decent mouse. And for reference, the Energizers I've been using for years, charging with my mx700 are 2500mAh. I noticed no noticeable difference in number of shots/on time with my camera between charging with the mouse, or the charger that came with the batteries. I used that mouse with the same pair of Energizer rechargeables for a couple years or so with no problems after replacing the originals, the batteries worked fine, didn't have to switch them out. I did not start using it as a charger for the camera until after the mouse died. It may not be able to charge them properly, but they are still going strong.

One of your problems is that when the MX700) came out there was no such thing as a 2000 mAh NiMH battery, and the charger that it came with is underpowered to properly charge such batteries. The MX700 came with 1500mAh batteries which are hard to find these days.

In addition battery charging circuits age and sometimes get to the point of not being able to fully charge any battery.

I have an old MX700 here in my office and I find that when using our modern high current batteries I fully charge them in another charger designed for these batteries, and then I put the mouse in the charger stand every night before I go home so the batteries never get a to a really low charge state. This has worked for me.

By the way, Logitech has exceptional support, and often as not will send out a comparable brand new free replacement mouse to a customer having a problem with one of their products. Keep calling until you get to a technician. They are a really great company.

I've been through that route...see previous reply. They want a fax of my receipt.
I'm still waiting for that email that they said they'd send me...still nothing.
There isn't even a fax# listed anywhere in the booklet - I'd go somewhere and send the stupid thing to them if I had that fax#.
Anybody have that fax#?
What batteries do you use? The NiMH,etc.

A couple of thoughts....

1) I bet there's a business with a fax within a short drive from your home... no FedEx Kinkos around?

2) have you ever thought that you killed your batteries? ... many of the rechargables can be damaged by using the wrong charger

3) Logitech cordless mice (most high end models anyway) eat through batteries... I have to replace the batteries in mine every 2-3 weeks, but I recharge them in the appropriate charger and they have lasted for about 7-8 years. Microsoft mice are easier on the batteries for future reference.

Mark -
I recharge the batteries...in the mouse...in the base that came with the mouse. When not in use...as in when I go to bed, etc. This is the SOP for this mouse.
I'd fax the Logitech people the info (receipt), but I don't have a fax# for them.

Update:
so far this morning there has been no email from the Tech, and it's been long enough for even a very slow server to send this email to me.
As to the Support for Logitech - you'd think that a company that big would be 'open' 24/7.
I'll be going to the Logitech website and do some hunting around for a fax#.
I'm not at all a happy camper.

Thank you, my friend. I do appreciate the data.
That Tech Support # you've got listed is different from what I have - 1-646-454-3200...and that's from the Tech Support website.
Also, what is Automatic Response?

I got those numbers from Google. If you got a different number from the support person you talked to, use that one. Incidentally, I trust you got a case number from them to put on the fax, or the receipt will mean nothing to them. I thought from your request for a fax number that they did not give you one.

I'd just use the email support on the site, send your attachment, give them every bit of information you can think of they'd need and more, address, phone, serial number, everything you've done so far, what they told you on the phone, etc. You won't hear until Monday at the earliest, but at least you'd have it done.

After finally being able to use their 'email support' page (very, very strange problems...had to login using old @adelphia.net email addy ), I went through the entire data - M/N, S/N, P/N, etc etc. giving description of what I have been going through with my friend mousey Submitted it, next page gave me a Ref#. Hope to hear from them by Monday, Tuesday at the latest.
I've also spent 2 hours reading the Forums - Hardware re the MX Revolution (plenty of problems cited).
Anyway, one of the Mods replying also had added that the Tech Support is open Sat & Sun 7A-5P PST. That isn't listed anywhere on the Logitech website

I received my last email from Olivia - Tech Support, this morning.
Within 7-15 business days I will be receiving my new MX Revolution mousey !
Thanks for all the replies.
Hope I don't have any problems with this mouse and is as easy to use as the MX700.
Is there anything that I should be aware of - useage, function, etc.?
Again, thank you.

I have found Logitech support to be excellent after like you a little frustrated with their phone system.I never had to provide a reciept only the p/n and s/n and recieved my new mouse pretty quick by courier.Overall I would give them a 8/10.

If you used the middle click on the wheel a lot, that's different. Instead of doing that click it makes the wheel basically freewheel, to very quickly scroll through things. I used the middle click with firefox to open new tabs, but pushing both left and right buttons do the same thing. There are more buttons and things, the wheel tilts side to side, and I'm not familiar with the Windows software (linux only), but you should be able to program them to do different things, I'd think. I liked the fit of the old mouse better, but I'm used to this one, and what I saw, other people like this one better. The battery meter is nice, and unlike the old mouse, this one I leave off the charger until it gets down to about one bar or less. Battery is not replaceable.

Oh my! I've never programmed my mouse to do anything. I've always just placed my index finger (right hand) on the space between those 2 button on the leftside of the mouse and the center section where all those other buttons are located. I would use that larger button-thing for scrolling. Other than that - never used any buttons.
Oh well, I'll read the instructions when the thing gets here.
BTW, is there supposed to be a software to install? I didn't use the software for this mouse when I got my new pc w/Vista (driver not available - used the MS natural driver).
Guess I'll go look at the data on this mouse now at Logitech
BTW, have you found anywhere on the Logitech website where one can change my email address? I've looked and can't find anything at all.
Their 'Help' is just for products

If you just plug it in, it will work like a normal mouse without the software I'm sure. Nothing to worry about. The software would just allow more features, if you don't want them, don't mess with it. I wouldn't install the software either probably, if I used windows. The only thing is that scroll wheel between the left and right main buttons. It will scroll normally, it's just if you ever click with that one (as in push on it, instead of trying to turn it), that's when it's different. Sounds like you don't use that button, that way, maybe. The scroll works the same as you are used to, as do the side buttons if you use them for forward/back on internet.

You should have no problem just plugging it in and using it.

I haven't looked at the logitech site for a while, I'll see later when I have some more time. Have to quit for now.

Thanks for the info.
I checked out the item at Logitech...just a demo
Went to Amazon.com and read the reviews. Others don't install the software either.
Hope I don't have problems with the batteries - useage, etc. Read quite a lot about that on the Logitech Forums.

I always take those with a grain of salt as most people that got to those forums have trouble or they wouldn't be there.I put them right up there with Newegg reviews.

True, but there must have been a reason for all of those problems...maybe a bad batch of mice and/or the batteries.
I just like to read stuff that others have posted and then do my 'own thing' .
We'll see what happens.

I have been using the Logitech MX Revolution for nearly 3 years now and love it. Contrariwise, I find the SetPoint software (v. 460.122) invaluable. Being able to change windows size between Maximize and Restore with a click of a button, move forward and back, increase/decrease or mute the volume, etc. extremely convenient. Since I don't do any gaming, I have no use for the configuration options for that. And I haven't messed with the proprietary configuration for individual programs either.

"have you found anywhere on the Logitech website where one can change my email address?"

There's probably another easier way to do this, but this is the first way that I found to get to it, might as well do it the hard way too. But go to the Logitech forum and log in. Then click on "my profile" next to "logout". That page will come up. At the bottom of that page is a search box, click that search button, no need to type anything. Next page comes up, click on "My Stuff", click on "Account Profile", there's your email....

I was looking at reviews of my camera after I got it, on Amazon, they gave it 3 stars because the price went down in two weeks. Said nothing of the camera, just the price going down. Imagine that on an electronic item, especially one that's only been out a few weeks. I agree, reviews/forums are nice to read, some are helpful, but you need to know which ones are actually useful information.

I've never been able to login to that Forum. I just get the 'run-around'...used the old email addy, then clicked on the 'forgot password' thingy...it then states 'can't find that email addy', etc. Tried using the regular (new) addy...same thing. Even tried registering again...it then states my email addy (new) is already in the database.
It's not that important. I can just go to the Forum and read what's there.
Thanks anyway.
BTW, in my last email to the nice Tech Support lady, I had asked about changing email addy...she stated perhaps I should just make a 'new account' on the Troubleshooting section.
I think, when I get the new mouse and go to register it, I will be able to put in my new email addy. We'll see what happens.

More MX Revolution FUD. You know how many reviews and comments I've read about this mouse that were negative because people think they can't middle click?

You can, that's what Setpoint is for. Mice these days do a lot more than click and scroll. You need special software to take advantage of these things.

The default action for my mouse, without the software, in Linux, is for it to cause it to freewheel. As I stated the software is for setting up buttons to do different things. It sounded like Lonnie didn't normally install the software, so the middle click would default to freewheel (unless you're telling me that's not what it defaults to now, they changed it). So what about what I stated was FUD, since you quoted my statement as being FUD? If you install the software, sure you can have it do something else. I'm of course assuming that without ever having looked at the software.

I believe I made this statement "but you should be able to program them to do different things". I'd think that should cover programming the middle button to do a middle click, etc. And if Lonnie doesn't use that button anyway, what difference does it make?

I had installed the Mouseware - thinking that I MUST install the stuff cuz the disc was supplied (I know better now ), when I got the mouse in 2004. This was when I still had my old pc (emachines w/ME). After having some problems back then with the pc and having to re-install my OS, I decided NOT to install that Mouseware...it ran perfectly without it. When I got my new pc 2/2007, I didn't install the Mouseware either.
Since I don't do gaming, etc., I figured that I didn't need to 'program' any of the buttons. Worked just fine in its' 'natural' function.
Sheesh...5 pages of replies for this subject...unbelieveable! I do appreciate it, though. That's what this website is for - getting help and info from others.

The nice man from UPS came knocking at my front door this afternoon.
Finally got my new MX Revolution working. Gawd, getting down on my poor knees and under the pc desk to remove the old Logitech mouse stuff was really bad.
That little USB thingy ended up being placed in 1 of the slots in the front of my pc...sticks out like a sore thumg, especially since it is black
Mouse has been charged and I've been using it for 1hr or so now...didn't install the software, of course
As to the style of the mouse...it is a bit ugly to my taste , but hey...for free, that's ok too.
Is there anything that I have to do as far as the Device Manager is concerned, etc.?

I recommend installing the software. You are throwing away 80% of the products usefulness. It's like buying a washing machine and using it as a sink for hand washing clothes.

I think you missed my point...

Try a different pair of batteries. If the batteries last a week, then it's the mouse. If they last a lot longer, then it's the old batteries causing the problem.

A reliable mouse requires a reliable pair of batteries. You are assuming that the problem is the mouse when the easiest thing to do is to test the batteries.

I will pick the easiest fix every time -- even if it means missing out on a shiny new mouse.

FYI... I have 4 of virtually the same battery. Mine are DC1500's and 2050 mAh. They suck in my Logitech mouse lasting only days compared to weeks for my Panasonic 1600 mAh batteries.

The problem may be overcharging as they require only 3 hours to fully charge. If you are putting the mouse on the charger every night than that could be your problem.

I buy my AA and AAA on ebay and they come from Hong Cong. Cost with shipping 6 to 7 dollars for a dozen. Batteries are 99 cents per dozen plus shipping.
AA are 2500, AAA are 1000 NI-MH.

Well, the manual did state that "When not in use, place mouse in Base Station to recharge batteries".
I was also told by others that have the same mouse to do the same thing...which I have done since the first day I bought the mouse 6/2004. BTW, my 'overnight' is actually only 3 hrs at the most.
The batteries are really hard to find around here.
Since I'm getting a new MX Revolution from Logitech as a replacement - Tech Support said that the base station has probably gone bad - I won't have to worry about it anymore
I've noticed that while reading about the Revolution mouse, it has only a 3yr warranty... sheesh.

No, they didn't. The original batteries were some kind of Oriental-type brand. Those died after 2yrs. I was only able to find the Duracell brand after going to every store - RShack,Target,BBuy,WMart,Staples,OMax,etc. - and happened to find a card at my neighborhood RiteAid Drugstore
The options for the range required for those batteries are almost slim to none. The price for a card of 4 AA, over the years, has gone from $11.99 to $15.99 plus tax !
