My Friend who had the Computer with XP and the 3 Gig HD,now has a new HP Vista machine .I installed his Old version of Quicken and picked up a Floppy (USB) on craigs list and the program works great with the backup imformation installed etc.He is going to keep the floppy hooked up and run it like he did before. Some of the graphing features work better than they did before ! He has several documents that he keeps a running update on,on his old machine.I copied those into his Documents folder on his new machine. They were created on his old one using "MS Works. Most will not open on his new machine. If I install Works on his new machine will they open?If not is there another solution ?TIA !
I had MS Works 8 on my old XP laptop and had several wordprocessor and database documents created with it. On my new Vista laptop I installed Works 8, upgraded to 8.5 and then all my old documents (restored from backups) could be opened and the program appears to be working without problems.
The native application, or a viewer for it, must always be present on the computer to open a document created by it. If his version of Works is vista compatible it will solve his problem.
