"ZoneAlarm Going Nuts Lately"

Up until two days ago, I was maybe receiving 7 hits a day, but the last 2 days have received around 50 hits per day. I have the free version 2.6.362 and I realize it is doing it's job, but I find it strange getting so many hits all of a sudden. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes. I'm using ZA Pro v2.362 and am getting many more than normal. Most are my ISP.

If many of the alerts are to port 1214, it's used for one of the many file sharing applications out there. I had more than usual alerts for port 1214 yesterday.

I get this message everytime I send email, which never happened before.

ZoneAlarm has blocked access to port 113 on your computer

ZoneAlarm has successfully stopped local network or Internet traffic from reaching your computer. No breach in your security has occurred. Your computer is safe. What happened?

ZoneAlarm blocked traffic to port 113 on your machine from port 18708 on a remote computer whose IP address is 216.104.96.5. This communication attempt may have been a port scan, or simply one of the millions of unsolicited commercial or network control messages that are routinely sent out over the Internet. Such unsolicited messages are often called Internet background noise.

Who is this?

Should I be concerned?

This alert should not be a cause for concern. ZoneAlarm has protected your machine according to the firewall settings you have selected.

Details

What should I do?

You do not need to do anything about this alert unless one of your programs is not functioning correctly or is unable to complete a task. In that case, you can lower your security level to medium to allow traffic off your machine. Additional Program configuration options can be found in the help files.

Marti, I also have received many from that port as well (1214)

The number of hits you see will vary widely. It was not long ago we were seeing over 50 per minute for a short time. Just be glad you have ZA protection and ignore it.

Thanks for everyone's input. God bless America today. Our hearts go out to those today who suffered loss on 9-11.
