MWAV - MicroWorld Free AntiVirus Toolkit Utility

This (the free version) had always been a scanner only.
It would detect, though not clean malware.

The current version, & seemingly through the end of May, gives you the option to both scan & remove malware. (I don't know why it wouldn't continue to do both after May, but time will tell.)

MWAV is Kaspersky based. 15MB. Runs directly from the download file (self-extracting).

(Note that this program runs on demand only. There is no realtime component. Also note, that if you choose the Scan & Clean option, the Cleaning does its thing on its own. There are no confirmation prompts. It see something bad, & assuming it can, zap, it's gone.)

You are correct. The utility has been offered with the clean option enabled. Last time we discussed it, many forum members dissed it claiming it was giving false positives.

The utility recently cleared up a major problem with the Win32.GRUM virus and a couple of Trojan downloaders on an infected machine. AVG 7.5 could not even see the virus. MWAV (as I call it for short) immediately detected and killed the processes and apparently removed the associated rootkit. Followup scans with AVG Anti-Rootkit and the new version of AntiVir show no infection.

I continue to find the AntiVirus Toolkit Utility an invaluable resource even when offered only in Scan mode.
