"Speaking of Spyware blaster....." Tue Aug-16-05 12:48 AM by _Chewy_
A while back, Maggie had posted a link regards to custom blocking with Spyblaster. That link is now dead - it pointed to a thread at another forum and I don't know what they did with it.
I searched on Google and still couldnt' find a link that worked.
Edit: If you don't use SpywareBlaster, to Lock your Hosts File, navigate to where it is and Check the attribute box to make it "Read Only" so it can't be changed.

Cool thanks Hank.
I have another question. I just tried to update the def. and spyware blaster gave me some kind of error message saying "error writing to disk". So I logged off and updated it using my Admin account and it worked fine. XP must be stopping me as a limited user from making changes to the Program Files directory.
Does spyware blaster require you to update the def. using an Admin/ Power user account?? I don't recall this quirk when I did my fresh install of XP recently. But then again, my memory may be wrong.
Edit: Thanks Crockett. My sinuses are killing me and i just got up from a nap a few minutes ago - it's not like i've been using this little proggie for the past couple of years or anything.
Sorry _Chewy_. I thought you were talking about a Custom Blocking List for the Hosts File. I didn't even notice that you were talking about SpywareBlaster.
I had saved a link, that I think came from Maggie. http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=9389 But it just gives the following message: The topic or post you requested does not exist.
Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

I just replaced my old list with the new one from site and now nothing appears in my list to enable??? I read the directions and reread them and it looks like my old one but nothing appears in the list now??? Here is what mine looks like.
Dell Dimension 4550,Win XP Home SP2, 2.4 GHZ P4, 512MB DDR PC2700 Ram, ATI Rage 128(32MB),Cable Dell Inspiron 5160,Win XP Home SP2,2.8 GHZ,512MB Ram,32MB Vide
I fixed it..Had to change the name of file to customblocking without the .txt extension. I think this is because I have my settings set to hide known extensions. Take care.

You da man Crockett.... Just what i was lookin' for. Hank your link was not what I was looking for originally, but it spurred me to lock down my hosts file even more - thanks.
(To answer my own question above, XP does indeed stop limited users from making any changes to the program files directory. I just tried saving a text file to the Spyware Blaster directory and got denied.)
