Try it and judge for yourself. I like it.

SIW 1.51 Build 581

SIW is a Read-Only / Display-Only System Information tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings. It is a utility that includes detailed specs for Motherboard, BIOS, CPU, Devices, Memory, Video, Drivers, Ports, Printers. It displays information about Operating System, Installed Programs, Processes, Services, Serial Numbers, Users, Open Files, System uptime, Users, Network, Network Shares, and more, as well as real-time monitors for CPU, Memory, Page File usage and network traffic. It also displays currently active network connections, Passwords hidden behind asterisks, installed codecs, and more.

Not too sure it's as good as Everest for hardware interrogation but it gives some startlingly detailed information about the lower workings of your subsystem.

Nice find

Okay, it would appear that senility has taken me over because for the life of me I can't find where this "storage option" is! I've been using SIW for quite some time and don't remember ever seeing this.

I really like the program overall but my one gripe is the lack of information, compared to Everest, for memory.

Oh, and there is a spelling error on the header for: "Hardware/Devices/Disk drives", which reads: "Propery" which I am assuming should be "Property".

Under "Bios", it appears that the "webpage" for the vendor is wrong. I have an AMI Bios (American Megatrends), but siw displays the URL for "Award". hehehe

I get the "invalid Arguement" error with Storage too.

Here's my siw.trc file - http://www.pcqanda.com/dc/user_files/14922.zip

I'm running a Seagate ST3160827AS Barracuda 7200.7 SATA drive as my main system drive on a Promise Fasttrack 376 intergrated RAID chip.

The rest

Primary Master - Maxtor 6E040L0 HD
Primary Slave - Lite-on Combo LTC-4816H
Secondary Master - Toshiba CD/DVDRW SDR5372V
Secondary Slave - Seagate ST340016A HD

I have a USB card reader too.

I've made another DEBUG build. It can be found here:

It dumps detailed info about errors in the C:\SIW.TRC file.

I'm sure you should. It seems the ones with a SATA/RAID setup are the ones getting the errors.

Yes, please do it.
btw, the trace info is added to the previous C:\SIW.TRC file.
It is better if you delete the old one.

Thanks,

I have 3 successfully calls and one returning error.
I'm getting the error when I'm trying to enumerate 'Tape' devices.
I don’t know why sometime the OS throws a fatal exception and sometimes returns an error.
Microsoft’s documentation describes only the error situation.
I will remove the ‘Tape’ checking and build another version (later, I’m in the office now).

Thanks,

Gabriel, got the update and the error that was formerly displayed when trying to access the "Storage" information is fixed, at least for me. However, the information for two of my drives is reversed. I don't know if this is specific to my system or if this occurs for others. As you can see from the screenshot, the information for the Western Digital HDD and the Iomega Zip drive is switched.

I'm seeing some confusing stuff about memory. It's reporting one slot with 64 mbytes. There are two slots on this laptop. It does report a capacity or 384 mbytes, which is what I have installed on it, a 128 and 256 mbytes chips.

You can see the answer here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/faq/smbios.asp#badinfo
SIW gets the info from SMBIOS.

That makes sense. I seem to recall seeing the same sort of error on that system in another program, perhaps Belarc.

Excellent Program. The "Secrets" icon reiterates what our COMP TIA instructor mentioned about the evils of using "Auto Complete".

After I sent Gabriel my file last night he sent me a new storage file to test. I ran that and it worked great on my machine and I relayed that to him. I see now that he must have updated the program after that.

This has been some great customer service for this program. Keep up the good work Gabriel and come back here more often. The people here will work with you and give you some solid leads and help anytime.
