#6. "RE: ZoneAlarm 5.5? Anyone having problems?" In response to md2lgyk (Reply # 5)
I have free version 4.5 on two computers, both of them behind a router. Everything has been working PERFECTLY for months now. Does anyone see any reason or need to update to 5.5 and risk messing up this smooth running setup? Thanks.

For some reason I have not been able to get my download application GetRight to work with *ANY* of the 5.x versions of ZoneAlarm Pro on this my main box. GetRight works fine with ZA Pro 5.x on my son's PC, just will not work on this box! So it is a mystery, but I have been unwilling to give up GetRight {which I long since paid for & registered} so I keep reverting back to ZA Pro 4.5.594 on this box. Otherwise the 5.x works just fine ..

Computer Associates' EZ Antivirus 2005 r7 is not updating completely. I've followed instructions for configuring ZA to give full Internet access to key CA files but the final module installation fails. I have to disable ZA to complete any EZ AV updates. Also, for the first time with a ZA product, I detect a barely perceivable lag in Internet access. However, I can live with it.

"any problems?"
YES. ZA Free.
Two systems, I did upgrade installs (which AFAIK other then retaining the ZA settings; zone levels, program controls ... is a clean install).
Win98. If I set Firewall | Internet Zone Security -> High, then nothing works. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. Everything is blocked.
Set it to Med. & everything works again, though I am no longer stealthed.
High does work correctly on WinXP.
WinXP. Log in as STEVEN. Switch to user THERUBE (but do not log out of STEVEN). Log out of THERUBE. Switch back to STEVEN. MS's whateveritiscalled Center reports that I no longer have a firewall protecting my computer - yet ZA is loaded & AFAIK is still working.
PS: After the initial installation reboot (on XP), my Desktop loaded, all of my try icons loaded except ZA. At that point I was effectively locked out (rather then up). I didn't crash per say, I just couldn't do anything. If I attempted to run a program, the hourglass just twirled away. The program never loaded. Ctrl-Alt-Del was not responsive. There was not much of anything I could do, so I did a hard shutdown & rebooted. After that initial time, ZA loaded correctly.

Using XP Pro and Opera 7.54, I always had to revert back to ZAP 4.5 because of freezing with downloads and with page rendering. Marti tried to help and even recruited her colleagues at ZA, but nothing worked until version 5.5. Miraculously, even though everyone said it was an Opera issue, it now works even though I made no changes within my Opera browser. I just did a clean install of 5.5 and all is fixed.
I never had any issues from 5.1 - 5.5 with Internet Explorer.

Thank you for all the replies. I installed on my main XP computer; and so far, everything is fine. Thank-you all.
I have had the problem of the system locking up when the system gets to the desktop since 5.1. Haven't had it yet with 5.5 (although, I only have restarted once). Never had the Opera problem with any version of ZA (Free).
