Just for the heck of it, I downloaded 1.04. I uninstalled 1.03 and installed 1.04. It doesn't stall for me during a scan with default settings.

RB , I tried to update the latest ref file . seems to be downloading but when I check it doesn't show . Only shows SE1R6 30.08.2004 . I just went to Lavasoft and thought I would manually install the last ref file. But it states that is is for AdAware 1.04 only
So how did you update yours ?

Strange. I updated the reference file when I reinstalled 1.3 and it got the newest file.

Installed 1.04 and have just done full system scan twice with no problems. I downloaded from the second of the three sites listed and am using Win98se.

Are all the people with problems using XP, have they installed the latest SP2, perhaps that's the cause?

edit: there are some people on the Ad-aware forum complaining about similar problems. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showforum=61

I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 so it is not a SP2 problem for me. I downloaded from MajorGeeks so I wonder if that could be the problem?

Don't think so because when I mentioned that I downloaded from the second site, I meant on MajorGeeks.

Same problem at the same place. Also had to use Ctr.,Alt., Del. to close program.
Running XPPro with XP2.
Un-installed, deleted all Lavasoft files using Search, reinstalled at Majorgeeks 1. Did the same all over again, reinstalled at Majorgeeks 2. Same results.

I grabbed the second link at Major Geeks thinking the first would be busy.
Then when Eric chimed in I went to betanews on another computer and got it from there also.
Everything ok here.

Edit: try the second site at Majors

Tried several different download sites, uninstalled 1.03, installed 1.04, five different times, hung in same spot as others. XP Home/Sp2.

On my W2000/sp4, downloaded and installed from #2 Major Geeks, ran Smart Scan, no problems.

Is it just XP that is having the problems? Went back to Download.com and downloaded 1.03, installed, updated and ran, no problems.

Whoa!!!!

I downloaded 1.03 from this link:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

When it installed, I ignored the new version update but let it install the updates for 1.03, then did a full scan.

Wow, 104,362 files scanned(1 object found), fonts turned green several times during scan.

This is definitely not the same 1.03 that I un-installed earlier.

This is the second time with MajorGeeks having a problem with an AdAware download. Could the problem be with MajorGeeks?

Had to uninstall 1.04, made my system hang.

EDIT: It is hanging at the exact same spot that the others have shown.

Just to confirm the trend, my brother downloaded from Maj Geeks mirror #2 and installed the program. It hangs early in the scan. This is with a Windows 98 SE system.

No problems here. Followed advice during set-up and let it uninstall the old version, then let it continue and complete a full scan of my system where it found three things to delete. Have run it again with no problems. Running Win XP Pro SP1.

Edit: I did set a system restore point before installing.

Priscilla, the file I downloaded asked during set-up whether I wanted to uninstall the older version. I checked Yes, and let it continue. It ran the full set-up without incident.

I dl from the 1st link at major geeks and haven't had a problem. Using XP Home, SP2. It did find four tracking cookies even after I ran the previous version of Ad-Aware.

I uninstalled the previous version then installed the new.

In the computer world, there’s a right way, a wrong way, and the Mac way. The Mac way is essentially the same as the wrong way, except it’s much faster and on a much larger scale.
