I'm using my bookmarks I had in Netscape 4.77 with Netscape 7.0
I have my bookmarks arranged by folders.
I can't seem to perform a successful search for a folder with Netscape 7.0. The only search that seems to be successful is a search for a specific URL, i.e. www.computer.com. If I have this URL listed in the folder COMPUTERS and do a search for computers it is not successful.
I read the help and they did mention putting sites into folders but never mentioned anything about performing a search for a folder.
Is there anyway to make the bookmarks in this newer browser behave similar to Netscape 4.77?
Possible work arounds (and this is based upon Mozilla 1.6).
With your bookmarks file open (Ctrl-B):
Just start typing - C O M P U T E R S. That will take you to the first COMPUTERS entry - be it a 'folder' or a url. If you are likely to have multiple entries that start with COMPUTERS, then if you were to preface COMPUTERS folder with, say an 'X', so that it reads XCOMPUTERS (to make it "unique"), then by typing X C O M P U T E R S will take you right to that folder. Or if you preface all your folders with an X ... XCOMPUTERS, XSOFTWARE, XBBS, ...

therube,
I opened bookmarks and I assume I had to click on tools and then click search bookmarks Maybe this is where I've been wrong. You said to start typing C O M P U T E R S. Where do I type this folder when I have bookmarks opened?
This what I did:
I opened bookmarks (ctrl B). I then clicked on tools. Then I clicked on "search bookmarks". When I clicked on the "search bookmarks" option a little Find Bookmarks window popped up with two drop down boxes. One was "name" with several options and the other "contains" with several options an a third was blank. This is where I typed the folder I'm searching for. I tried different combinations but I still can't come up with a folder. In this example we're using COMPUTERS as the folder.
I hope I'm making this clear. It's difficult to put into words.
This has been bugging me for some time.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I sure would like to get this problem solved. I can't imagine having problems with bookmarks but I do.
Just open your bookmarks - Ctrl-B. The cursor should be on the first entry in the file. No need to click a menu entry or anything. Just start typing C O M P U T E R S & the cursor should jump to the first entry that starts with COMPUTERS. Be it a folder or a URL.
In the pic below, the "cursor" is on the 'Dos Freeware' folder. If I start typing V A L, it will immediately jump to the Val-Pak Coupons line. Stop typing. Then type S O F T W & it will jump to the 'Software & Stuff' folder.
Now if all my folders had a "unique" name, I can jump directly to any of them.
I don't get the search option where you can type in what you're telling me. I can see why I'm having problems.
The window I get with (ctrl B) is Bookmarks for aa1aq. I don't get the Bokmark Manager window.
I forgot how to add an attachment with an image of my bookmark file. It would take me some time to figure that out. It's been too long since I've done it.
My browser is Netscape 7. I have it on two computers and they both act the same.
I have no idea what can be wrong. The browser came off a disk from Netscape.
Do you have any ideas.?
Sorry for the late replies but I have other things that must be tended to.
