Hi All Just got Abit KG7 with XP1600 256DDR. Running Fdisk Ctrl Alt Delete Just blanks out screen My Green Comm. Led on Monitor goes to Yellow (no Communication)computer just sits with fans spinning. If I do a Shutdown and restart it will again boot to Floppy but every time I do Alt Ctrl Del or a Reset button screen just blanks. I have the latest Bios. I've checked Bios settings over and over with no luck Any suggestions
The thought of returning this board gives me the shivers.
I run the same board and CPU, and it runs flawlessly. I assume you are running W9X. Did you install the chipset drivers that came on the CD you got with the board? Consult Appendix A starting on page A-1 in the rear of your manual, and Appendix B that follows.

Running Fdisk? I take it you're formatting a brand new drive. How big is it? Fdisk has some size limitations ( believe it's 32gb ). Use the partitioning utility that came with your HD if it's a new drive. Otherwise dl the appropriate program from your HD Mfg.
Give us a bit more info as to what you've tried.
Can you boot into Windows? You're not clear on this. If it's just a Cntrl\Alt\delete problem, or a rest problem then it sounds more like a software issue rather than a hardware issue.
You might want to try this. Do a " Find Files for *.pif. Delete the DOSPRMPT and Exit To DOS shortcuts that show up in C:\Windows. Also delete any MS-DOS Prompt shortcut that shows up in any C:\Windows\Profiles. Windows will rebuild these shortcuts with the correct ones when you reboot.

Sounds more to me like a bad power supply, Or one too small for the system, that system should have a 400 watt supply. Could also be caused by a bad memory stick. The memory on that board must be populated from the highest bank first, the reverse of most boards. Use the memory slot closest to the CPU first.
Shelly Thankyou Did not install chipset drivers, Windows not loaded yet. If ddr in wrong slot a message will show up. 350 watt power supply Chickenman Thankyou 10Gig WD No OS installed yet Crazygerman Thankyou 20 minutes still hung Called newegg and got a RM# for refund Ran out and bought a Epox 8KHA+ (wife is going to kill me} Setup went fine. I thought my Iomega CD-Rw went bad due to the fact that the Abit bios always reported "None" no matter what or where on the ide I plugged it in. With any Ide ribbon installed I could not open draw. I was about to toss it But I tried it with the Epox and I'm back in bussiness I did want to go with Abit but must have recieved a lemmon
