"Phillips to Increase DVD Capacity"

"Dutch company Philips Electronics says it has developed a new technology with Japan's Mitsubishi Kagaku Media that nearly doubles the storage capacity of data on recordable DVD discs."

Wow theoretics released years ago said Double sided Double density format for DVDs would be able to hold up to 17.6GB...

And I thought TDK had *just* announced avant-garde DVD technology which reached up to 39 GB. Was I dreaming?...

It was 6 or more years ago, and they do exist. The reason they have gone away from them is because research showed that people would rather pay more to have 2 DVD's provided they had lables on them.

My Stargate DVD is DVD9 on both sides, one for 4:3 and one for 1 .
