"Jaton 8MB AGP Video Card slow slow slow with NHL 2001 Game...Why?"
Okay I have the correct drivers for the video card and I have directX 8.? (the newest from MS Web site). The main screen (where you select options etc) shows up great! (very fast spining of buttons etc). Then when it enters the game the speed is less than 1fps! Video from the CD plays fine also.
IS it possible that a 2x AGP 8MB Jaton Video Card (coming back to post the actual model) will not work with the Direct X? What options would I have for gaming or should I trash the $30.00 video card and grab something else?

I think trashing the card and grabbing something else would definately help you. Try a 32mb or 64 mb card. If you're running anything faster than a Pentium2, a NVidea GeForce card would be the way to go. I'm running a Pentium2 myself and I have a GeForce 2. It was meant for a higher end system, so it runs a little slower than I'd like, But, graphics in all games I've used with it have been top notch. Hope this helps you

Look at the box for the minimum requirements. I think for NHL 2001 is, at least, 16MB for the video card although 32 MB would be better. That is, in my estimation, what is required for todays games.
Like Shaitan I'm running a Celeron with a Voodoo 5 64 MB. All my games play smoothly, not fast, CPU limited but graphically gr8.

Thanks for the help... I had about 5 of these cards from systems I was building 3 years ago.. (probably great back then). It's still a wonder why I can't get better than 8MB card (the box says 8MB). I would understand maybe 15 frames/second but under 1 fps? Seems like the card isn't functioning properly?
Do you have the AGP drivers installed for your motherboard? Which motherboard are you using? And yes, I'd trash the 8Mb video card. I have a 8Mb card on my laptop- it plays games horribly.
Does it have the dreaded "Trident Chipset"? I would rather be behind a VW busload of cannibals on Donner Pass than use a Trident. I have one hanging out here somewhere that I have been saving to give to someone, but I can't think of anyone I hate that much.}>

Install as much stuff on your hard drive as possible. Turn down all the graphics and sounds. Run at 640x480 and 10fps will be a distinct possibility.
NHL2001 requires a lot of horse power, and 2002 is even worse. For about $70 you can get yourself a GeForce2 MX400 64MB AGP card and that should allow you to get decent frame rates. For about $120 you can get a GeForce2 Ti 64MB card and that will get you excellent frame rates with all the details turned up.
