Hey all,

It's that time again. Time for the PCQandA Semi-Annual fund raiser. As you may or may not know, running a site like PCQandA costs quite a bit of time and money. While the moderators and myself donate the former free of charge, you can help with the latter. All of your contributions go to paying our hosting bills, costs for the forum software, and the other various costs that PCQandA.com incurs. You can donate in a variety of ways:

Sounds like a good idea Jason, the only way I could contribute though would be by Money Order issued by Australia Post, I'm not sure if they'll issue one in US Dollars however, would Australian Dollars be OK?

Edit: hmm... I don't have a credit card. I'll check with my bank next week to see if there's another way to do it. I might have to apply for a credit card...

In a similar postition to Carl D. One doesn't want a credit card so Paypal is out. What is the charge from your bank for conversion. I will enquire from my bank to see what they suggest but if your charges are less that would be better. Would love to help out a bit but I am not getting a credit card.

You don't need a credit card to use PayPal. I have payPal set up to transfer directly from my checking account. It's like writing a check.

Ok Shelly, I have sent an email to PayPal to enquire about it. From everything I can read on their help section it appears American Cheque Accounts are the only ones that are eligible, but I will see what they say.

Edit: This is their reply. I will try the bank to see what they charge to convert it to US before I sent a money order. Geez what a pain in the arse.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

International users must have a confirmed credit card registered with
PayPal in order to be able to sent payments. I have listed the rules below
for International Accounts to accept, send or withdraw payments.

The following guidelines apply to accepting, sending and withdrawing funds
using an International PayPal Account.

To accept funds into your PayPal Account:

If you have an account registered from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands,
New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United
Kingdom, your account will have local ACH withdrawal availability.

· If there is no credit card or bank account added, you will receive
payments with 'accept or deny' status

· You will be asked to add a credit card and/or a bank account

· Once one payment is accepted, all future and pending payments will
automatically be accepted

· Members with accounts registered from Canada will not be asked to
register a credit card or bank account to accept payments. All payment sent
to Canadian accounts will be automatically accepted into the account

If you have an account registered from any International country other than
those listed above, your account has no local ACH withdrawal availability.

· All payments that are sent to an International PayPal Account
registered from a country without local ACH availability will remain in
'accept or deny' status until the payment is accepted or denied

· You will be required to add a credit card to accept a payment. Once a
credit card is added, you will be asked to either register a bank account
or accept the payment without registering a bank account

· Accepting a payment will only affect that payment, future and pending
payments will have to be accepted or denied individually

To send funds from your PayPal Account:

· All members must add a credit card to send funds from their PayPal
Account to another member

· If there is an initial sending limit granted, you can send up to that
limit before having to complete the Membership Process

· If there is no sending limit available, you will have to complete the
Membership Process to send funds

· Once you have completed the Membership Process, your sending limit
will be lifted, subject to the credit available on the card

When you use PayPal to send money, the balance in your PayPal Account is
used first. If the payment that you are sending exceeds the amount of funds
in your PayPal Account, the remainder of the payment can be funded through
an active credit card, a confirmed bank account, or another currency
balance. You can view the source of funds and the back up source of funds
(if applicable) for a payment on the 'Check Payment Details' page before a
payment is sent. To view other funding options, click the 'More Funding
Options' link.

To withdraw funds from your PayPal Account:

All members, (with the exception of members from Argentina, Anguilla, Costa
Rica, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica) can withdraw funds to a U.S. bank
account.

International customers registered from Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico,
Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
and the United Kingdom, can withdraw funds to their local bank account.

The requirements to withdraw funds to a U.S. or local (if approved) bank
account are:

· Confirm email address
· Add bank account information
· If you receive a New Account Withdrawal Limit, you can withdraw
up to that amount before you have to add a credit card and complete the
Membership Process
· If you do not receive a New Account Withdrawal Limit, you will
need to add a credit card and complete the Membership Process to withdraw
funds

Please note:

· There is no option to withdraw funds to a credit card, as that is not
supported by the credit card companies

· International members cannot request a check withdrawal

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Paula
PayPal Customer Service

Jason, are you able to say to what extent the site will benefit from a subscription to one of the computer magazines (ie, in comparison to a direct donation)?

Well, let's just put it this way, a direct donation gives the most money to PCQandA, but a subscription to one of the computer magazines also gives you a side benefit of the magazine subscription. If you're thinking of subscribing to the magazine only to support PCQandA and not because you like the magazine, you're probably better off doing a direct donation. However, if you do like the magazine and want to subscribe, the affiliate program will help support PCQandA when you subscribe.

I just sent you something, hope it gets to you. I was wondering if maybe you could set something up with newegg; a banner referral thing or something. I buy a lot of stuff from them. I always buy crucial ram, but I purchase from newegg so unfortunatly that dosnt help PCQ@A at this point.

>Sorry, but i don't see how to send check per PAY PAL only

It isn't a paper check its a direct debit. I have been doing it for years. You authorize them to debit your account, and it appears on your bank statement when you make a purchase through PayPal. Also anything you sell is credited directly to your bank account. On something like a donation, you just tell them the amount, and the recipient. I have spent several thousand dollars through PayPal without incident.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though NewEgg has an affiliate program. I know a lot of people buy stuff through them (myself included) and we could probably raise some cash for PCQandA if they did.

I noticed that Spybot has suddenly started blocking the Crucial link. It has also started blocking some other URL's. I have a work around for it but not a full cure. On the bottom of the Immunize page, I changed the drop down selection to "Ask for confirmation". Then each time it tries to block a page it will ask and you can click on the No button.

I wrote Alex about that, it was doing it on his link, too. It identified itself as being blocked by S&D's IE helper and I just uninstalled it on the Immunize page, but i like your solution better, Shelly.

I have not had the time to figure out how to completely exclude sites one does not want blocked. This may be an oversight by Spybot. It's even blocking my home page. Perhaps Marti has a solution.

I don't use the immunize feature, as I have my IE settings "so tight" that I often can't view many sites. I also have many sites listed in IE's restricted zone. Therefore, I can't get to Crucial via this site (or PC911) using IE (I have to use Mozilla). Immunize would add one more layer of confusion when I really want to access a particular site.

I also cannot get to Crucial from PC911.

Hi, tailback!

I don't have a problem using the Crucial link at the bottom of the PC911 Home Page.

I'm using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP1 and all the critical updates. In Internet Options, Security and Privacy are set to Medium.

AMD Athlon64 3000+, MSI K8T Neo-FSR, Corsair CMX512-PC3200C2, Windows XP Pro, High-Speed AOL Plus!
