""Hardware Monitor Found An Error...Enter Power Setup...""

Hi,

I recently encountered a new error at Bootup Screen. I run on WinMe and until recently had very few problems. Now, when I bootup I get a message "Hardware Monitor Found an Error. ..Enter Power Setup Menu (in Bios) for details." So i did....and Under that specific selection "power setup" I only saw...some sort of temperate monitor - and they were fine. The only thing was highlighted in RED was "Power Fan Speed" was on N/A. what does it mean??? Is that what is wrong? And what's wrong??? And if it's not that what is it then? I do have a choice to procees to Windows, but i just want to know what it is and whether shoul dbe fixed immediately.

If somebody can explain that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Lana

It means it isn't seeing a fan signal for your CPU fan, so it thinks it has quit working. If your temps are ok, then it obviously is working. Do you have the CPU fan plugged into the motherboard, or directly to the PS?

Whichever fan is causing the error message, it must be plugged into a motherboard header in order to be tracked by the monitoring system. If a fan is plugged directly into a power-supply lead, then it would not be detected.

I'd be more inclined to think that "Power Fan" refers to something different, and maybe the power-supply fan is running too slowly or the bearing is failing.

If the CPU/heatsink cooling fan is monitored and malfunctions, many systems will just shut down completely without a warning, as a protective measure.
