That's Pathetic. I just had to pay $99 for SW 2002. It has a rebate but even after that it will still have cost me $60. Sometimes it just plain sucks to live in Canada.

It's seems strange that the same ad that is for SystemWorks Pro 2002 for $9.99 also has Norton AntiVirus 2002 for $24.99! Why would you pay more for the AntiVirus when it is included in SystemWorks? Here's the ad:

to get rid of stock, maybe Sys Pro didn't sell as expected and software is something that if you don't get rid of it within a given period of time starts depreciating very fast. Probably 10 bucks is what it costs to package it.

Also read a review that 2001 was better than '02. If enough people read the same review, could have stifled sales.

As it turns out, both rebates are from Symantec, but with different department numbers on them at an address that is the same. CompUSA must have worked a deal with Symantec for a special rebate. I didn't buy SW 2001, so I was using SW 2000. At $9.99 it's a deal you can't pass up.

vitalt, i just went to symantec and took the upgrade for systemworks 2002 for $39
compusa's bait was to time consuming to sort out. i'm with you, if the price is good i'll buy. i'm not necessarily looking for a deal as it usually doesn't exist (without strings), at least not from con-glom-o-nets like compUSA.

Shelly -

Just visited Comp USA in Rockville, Maryland. Turns out the version that's on sale for $9.99 is NOT the Pro version. The Pro version is selling for $99.99 less a $30 rebate. Thought it sounded funny. I would have bought it otherwise.

Then they are not being entirely truthful. The add for this week and also on their online website shows and states it is SW 2002 Pro. It is in NY.

No doubt the internet ad says it's System Works Pro for sale at $9.99. It might be that it's an Internet sale price. I did not misinterpret what the store said, but it raises suspicions about how Comp USA conducts their business.

Thanks.

Click on the link and look at the last software on the page. It is definitely Professional. I clicked on "In Store", typed in my zip code (21206), and it showed it is available in Rockville. Go back to the store and pick up one of the circulars and show the ad to the hamberger flipper who gave you bad information. That ad is from the "national circular", not the Internet specials.

It's just that the level of stupidity of their employees is boundless! The sale is for SW Pro I purchased it and sent in the two rebates, and the $50 one specifies Pro version only. Why the hell would they offer $90 in rebates on a version that lists for $69.95?

The short answer is to buy it from their website if they don't have another store near you, and you don't want to fight with the one you went to. Personally, I would grab the store manager and make him wish he hadn't come to work that day.

Good advice, Shelly. I ordered it from the web site and the shipping is less than it would cost me to drive to the nearest store.

There is a liink to print the $50 rebate coupon. Don't miss it.

Bob,

Where did you see a link to the $50 rebate? I don't see it anywhere.

Thanks Shelly for the 'heads up'. I totally missed this in the paper.

I picked one of these up last night and the CompUSA store that I went didn't have the $50 rebate. 'Customer Service' had to print one from her PC (I wasn't leaving without the form).

Yeah, Shel, you're right about the $50 rebate specifying the Pro version. I printed it out just now.

Question: Do you have to go to a CompUSA store and make the purchase to get in under the 12/20/01 deadline, or, can you order it at their internet site by that date and still qualify? (I'm assuming you went to the store from the sound of your last post).

Also, the internet site (bottom of the rebate page) states that the in-box $30 upgrade rebate expired on 12/8. What gives with that???

You can buy it at a store or the website within the date requirements and qualify. There are seperate submission instructions for the web purchase since you wont have a sales register receipt. You have 30 days from date of purchase to submit the rebate forms.

Depends on what features you need. The main thing the Pro version adds is Ghost. I believe Go Back is on both versions, and I think WinFax is just on the Pro.

The version of GoBack included with NSW2002 Pro is but a shell of it's pre-Roxio iteration. Unless you pay an additional $29.95 to Roxio for the "Deluxe" version, you get just a barebones edition that only "reverts" and which sets very few "safe points" - at least in comparison to the earlier Wildfile and Adaptec versions (2.2x and prequelae). Additionally, it does not have file recovery for deleted or previous versions of a file.

Still, for the uninitiated, or for anyone who uses their computer minimally and/or who practices safe computing, it should be quite sufficient. And you can't beat the price with everything else you get after the rebates.

Jim.
