Is there a way, software, anything that can search my computer for all aplications and show me a list of applications that do not have shortcuts and generate them for me? :'(
My little one deleted a ton of shortcuts (had sorted in one folder, so he really only deleted one folder) but it contained software I need, and for some reason can't locate manually - there is way to much stuff on this box.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
(other than don't let my little one play with my computer )
If the pc hasn't been shut off you could go to the directory where the folder was previously and right-click to see if there is an "undo move" or "undo delete" option. Unless it was REALLY big or you have the size set to 0 it should be in the recycle bin. Try doing a search for the folder or shortcut names.
This happened about a week ago - and at night before I log off I usually empty my trash, didn't notice it was gone until I needed to burn a CD and found my whole utility folder gone. No way to retrieve it now.
That's why I was wondering if there is a software to search the computer and let me pick and choose which software I want as short cuts... I guess I could just do a search for exe files and do it that way eh?
If all else fails you set up another folder and start browsing for .EXEs for the files you want to recover. I keep nine folders on the desktop with different headings and containing appropriate like files.
Probably more important though, is how to protect this stuff once replaced. Ghost makes a good way to archive your desktop.....
I have an Excel program with code that works on XP searching out all shortcuts and checking if their targets are still present. I suppose it could be upgraded to do what you want but it isn't something I could do quickly.

Mary, Belarc creates a list of the software apps you have installed. You can then click on the asterisk at the end of each entry & it will take you to that apps folder and you can recreate your shortcuts as needed.
