Ouch now that hurts. :'( I lost an 80+hr one that way last week as I wasn't aware of the resetting back to 0% problem.

You know Vitalt it's just going to restart that long unit again so you might want to consider killing it and taking your chances on a shorter newer one?

Mike1, sorry to see that but just hang in there. That's exactly the same thing all of us have been seeing a lot of in the last two weeks. I appears to be getting better for me so let's hope they are making progress at UD.

also there is the fact that ive never dumped one and have no idea how.

Vitalt to dump one just shut down your UD and locate the UD.xxxxxxx (not UD.exe)where "x" is a number and delete that file. UD.exe is the main program and will grab another work unit from the internet when it's started up again.

FWIW I'd do that rather than risk losing that big unit again. If you grab a new one your UD may well update itself and repair some of the glitches currently present while getting a newer smaller work unit.

It took me about 1 hr 15 min to send in 3 results from 3 computers and cache new WU's in UD Monitor on each machine. Each time Zone Alarm stopped the downloads until I allowed them to proceed. Same thing happened last week when the program changed.

If you are on an always on connection such as cable modem or ADSL you shouldn't have to do much really. It will keep on trying to connect until it gets through. Dialup...........well that's another kettle of fish.

Yes,you can get it to automatically connect with the UD dialup program for DUN.
You will still have trouble though until they get this server mess figured out.

I use dial up. Good program. Right now I have it set to try 100 time every 25 min. For those that are frustraded just let UD fix it's problems don't give up that will solve nothing. In the past four days I've only been able to complete three WUs about 10hr each. Keep a good face on. JD

I have no problem connecting with UD.It always shows "primary task running"It shows the hrs ,mins, sec of run time and the percentage of "the percentage of "task execution "BUT it never completes any thing and shows 0 points and0 years 0 days and 0 hours 0 minutes and 0 seconds.I am lost.I had a hell of a time getting signed up and my machine is cranking like this day after day since I got on but I guess it is not doing anything for Cancer or any points for TEAM911.As best I can guess I may be at fault but I can,t figure what to do next.I was really frustrated at first but now I find it more funny than frustrating.Any ideas for this novice??

Hello 81 Newbee,
You made need to uninstall and reinstall. The following is a quote from a reply by HettaLongun in another thread.

"Uninstall the current UD Agent from the Add/Remove Programs utility, then download a new ud_agent_setup.exe from the UD download page: http://members.ud.com/download/gold/ You have to register a new device when you do this, but, many UD members report is solves the restart from 0% problem."

Whole Thread

It is a frustrating project at the moment! Stick with it though.

Hi Jim, After I click the UD icon on the sys tray ,where is "exit" located? I can't locate a menu with it.I have been looking for it before your suggestion with no luck.If I thought that it was working and also giving PC911 the points etc I'd forget the damn thing.I thought I was gradually learning the basics but this has set me back .Thanks for the help.PC 911 has helped me before so I'm sure it will eventually do it again. This time I have less confidence after reading what troubles some of you knowledgeable folks are having with UD..

Hello 81 Newbee,
Right.Here we go,

1.Turn off UD Agent by the right click etc.

2.Now uninstall UD Agent via Add/Remove Programs in ControlPanel.

3.Download new UD Agent from http://members.ud.com/download/gold

4.Install new agent. When registering be sure to check the existing member option. Fill in your user name and password.

Everything should be tickety-boo.

Post if you are unclear about anything,

Jim

Thank you Jim, Would it be just as well if I signed up as NEW and used my PC911 ID ( 81 Newbee) as my name or would this create problems?Would signing up as before give me the lost time? Either way ,if this works how do I sign up for the PC911 team. I thought I had signed up for that before under the old name. Is there a way to be sure that takes and is there a need to remove the old sign up before I sign up again.?

Your best bet is to sign up as "New" and change your identity a bit then make sure you join the "PC911" team when it asks you. If you sign in under your existing ID and you happen to not be on our team then you still won't be on our team when you accumulate points.

Hello Spezi,Things are going from bad to worse. After downloading and executing the program.I filled out the application and now it says it can,t find my server .It took it the last time I signed up so I didn't even get the icon in the sys tray this time. Thanks for trying to help.I guess I will just dump the damn program .I'd like to help the UD but I Am tired of the effort.I guess I'm too dumb to figure it out.I get signed up and the thing runs but no points or time recorded.I cancel and go through the sign up again and it won't accept what it did the first time.I think I will do better learning how to create GIF images. It will be a lot moe fun and a hell of a lot less frustrating. Thanks again.

Hello Again,
There is an all round problem at the moment with connecting with the UD Server. It is being worked on and hopefully things will soon be back to set and forget with UD.

It sounds like your agent is trying to connect to the server to download a work unit. The best thing to do is to keep trying. Sooner or later it will connect and things should run OK from there.

It is a frustrating time all round for established UD Members. It must be especially so for anyone anxious to get it up and running properly for the first time.

All I can say is to hang in there it will work out. A week or so ago I was feeling very teed off when I found out most of the work my machine had done, was wiped out every restart. Things are getting back to normal now and most of the time I dont even notice the agent is running.

If you really feel that you are getting nowhere at the moment, put it on the back burner and come back to it in a few days. Keep an eye on the UD posts to see the state of play with the server.

Dont give up just yet,

Edit. If it seems I dont respond very quickly to your posts, I am in the UK and usually asleep when you post!

Jim

Hi Jim, I keep trying. This AM everything seemed to go well. When I got to the submiting form, I got the following message"Unable to connect with UD server. Please try again. If you are using a proxy server, please verify the settings with your network administrator"
I am not on a network and I will keep trying every couple of hours for the next couple of days. Thanks for the encouragement.
Where in the UK are you located? I was with the 4th Infantry Div during WW2.We were some of the first GIs other than Airforce in England.I was stationed in Devonshire near Tiverton and truly enjoyed the hospitality.Beautiful country terrific people.I have fond memories of those days

Hi Jim,I tried to connect several times today and got the same message.I just tried again and after a two minute wait got a message back. The first sentence was changed:"Error in sending log in imformation to server" .The rest of the message was the same.
I have no idea what the error could be, The form I filled out was the standard UD registration form. The same one it accepted last time.
I am confused

Hello Again,
Looks like we crossposted. When you registered this installation, did you do so as an existing member or as a fresh installation?
If you signed up as a new installation and used the same details as on the first installation it may be causing the problem.

Jim

Hello 81 Newbee,
Good to see you are persevering with the UD agent. It is a worthwhile project and usually not effort at all.(my wife gets fed up with the PC running all the time though!)

We live in Portsmouth, Hampshire on the southcoast. Devon is not far way. Two counties away along the coast. My wife is from Dorset the county in between.
It is still beautiful in Devon. A nice mixture of country and coast. Although we tend to spend more time in Dorset with family.

Where are you in the US?I lived and worked in Manhattan for 4 years in the late 80's. Really liked it but didnt travel around the country as I should have done. Still will get back again one day. Lot of family in the New York and New Jersey area.

Talk to you soon,

Jim

Hi Jim,I signed up as a new member.I checked again before going to PC911 and it is back to the message:"Unable to connect with UD server. Please try again" I changed the name so that should not be the problem.I'll just keep trying. When I signed up last time it finally let me in after a couple of days. After I get in I'll ask more ?s.
I live in San Jose,Ca.now.I came here in Dec of 1956.I was born in Brooklyn,N.Y.I moved to Beacon,N.Y.(55miles north of NYCity on the Hudson river)as a kid.I spent a lot of time in N.Y.City(ball games ,Radio City Music Hall,Coney Island etc.Fell in love with the weather in the Santa Clara Valley and decided I would never go back to New York except to visit.Little by little the rest of my family moved this way as well.
The New York and Hudson valley is beautiful but the weather is not the best. What area are your relatives in?
By the way who is the cute one on your page? Thanks for the help.I'll be watching for any tips I can get.Sincecely,John

Dear John,
Excellent! Glad you stuck with it. Good to have you aboard PC911 Team.

Never did get to the West Coast. Although I was married briefly to a lovely woman from LA.(I messed it up not her). Perhaps when our children are a bit older we will have a bit of a tour round.

The year I arrived in New York, the Mets won the World Series and The Giants the Superbowl. Have always looked for their results since. Really enjoyed going to baseball games, (even to Yankee Stadium when I got freebies!).Liked Coney island. Really liked having access to the shows etc.

A lot of the family I have in the States are either in Queens NY, Orange or Twin Rivers NJ or now, especially the older members, moving to the South Jersey Shore around Spring Lake. These are the more immediate family members of my Dad's side.

My avatar picture is of our youngest, 3 year old Heather Joan. It needs updating really, but it serves as a reminder that there are peaceful moments in life!

Right then, I see from your other posts you are interested in making some gifs, etc. A nice easy start is to have look at somewhere like Cool Text or Flaming Text. Have a go at making a couple of signatures or whatever then we will see if you can get them loaded up to your profile.
I have put a couple of examples below. They are probably not to your taste! Any way have fun.

Jim

Hello Jim,I am now 73% through LIGANDFIT and all seems to be going well. When It finishes how do I go about reporting it to get the credits to the PC911 team ,or is that automatic?
Your 3 yr old is a real cutie. How many children do you have?Enjoy them now as they grow up real fast and time really does fly. Before you know it they will be gone and with luck the fun starts when you can break all the rules and spoil your grandkids.Your children will either be upset or pleased by this(this will vary day by day) but either way it is great fun for you.
Thank you for those interesting sites.I know I will be spending a lot of hours fooling with them.Queens is a nice section of N.Y.My dad was one of 13 kids which meant I had 12 aunts and uncles. Most of them lived in Queens.I would often spend a couple of weeks there when school was out for the summer.( lots of cousins)
Thans again for all your help.Keep in touch,Sincerely, John

Hello John,
When it gets to the end of the unit it will attempt to connect to the server automatically. If you are on-line and dont have a firewall up and running it should upload the result and download a new unit. If you are running a firewall you will probably be prompted by it, that UD is trying to access the internet. You will need to give it permission. When the results are uploaded the points will automatically be credited to you and PC911.

If for any reason it can't connect you will see the yellow exclamation mark flashing over the UD icon in the system tray. This could be because you are off line or the server is busy. If off-line go on-line. If the server is busy you will need to bear with it, much as you have done trying to get the download of the first unit.

Hopefully all will go smoothly and your numbers will be added to the daily stats posted each day by Dubber and co.

My own set up,he says touching a piece of unfinished wood, has been running without a hitch for the last few days. No problems connecting to the server.

Suzy and I have two children. The other is Patrick Ross and he will be 6 years old in 2 weeks time. Lots of birthday wish lists at the moment.
My dad was one of 12 and my mum one of 7, I too have lots of cousins etc. Many I have never met.
Do you have many grandchildren? I think it will be a few years before we see any!

Dont hesitate to post again if you are having any problems. Although it might be better to start a new thread if they are about uploading gifs etc.

Good to talk to you,

Jim
