"Breathalyzers for all..."

The French government hopes that with breathalysers in every car, drivers who suspect they may be over the limit can test themselves and if necessary refrain from taking the wheel.

Yeah, sure they will

I have yet to see a drunk person worrying about whether they were drunk. Once in that condition it is already too late.

It's hard to believe a government would decide to do this!

Does that mean that the cops don't have to bring their own breatholyzers???

Why people Vote in Politicians to make these grad decisions is beyond my comprehension.

Isn't France supposed to be renowned for drinking Wine? ... Lots of Wine.

They drink Wine like we drink water.

Living in Denmark, where France is a one of the big holliday destinations. This law has been a news story for days now. It seems to be a way to raise awareness, with theese wine-lovers.
Stats mentioned, says that 17% of fatal accidents in France are alcohol related, 13% in the UK, and 10% in germany.
I don't think this law wil change much, but it will raise discussions in France, that in the long run will hopefully help change the general attitude, towards mixing alcohol and driving.

You do realize that all of you who go on holiday to France will have to carry one of those breathalyzers too. Unless you don't drive to the country or if you go by some other means don't drive while there.

edit: I just found a statistic that says in 2006 that 23% of traffic fatalities in Denmark where alcohol related. So when are you guys going to require the breathalyzers?

If starting the Car meant you "Had" to use the Breathalyzer then I can
see it being a life saver. If it's just a test no one is going to give a shit and drive anyway. A breathalyzer that prevents you from driving drunk is an Idea that could someday be in everybody's car and perhaps "should" be in everybody's car. That kind of use of it would be very effective.
Just think of all the money "They" would loose if no one was ever caught driving drunk..
