"Connecting a printer to a laptop"

I am unable to connect a Canon PIXMA MG5120 printer to HP laptop.
The printer is not listed on the icons. I would appreciate any and all help with this problem,

cryptokid

Did you download and install the drivers and software?

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/mg-series/pixma-mg5120?tab=drivers_downloads

It looks like the only connection option it has is USB and I saw in the setup guide that you shouldn't connect the USB cable until prompted to do so during the software installation.

T tech, says it cannot detect the printer. I checked to ensure printer was on-it was. I disconnected the cable from the printer and than reconnected it. Still cannot connect. What should I do now?

Thanks

cryptokid

Please provide some history of the computer and printer. This printer is several years old, when was the last time that it worked correctly? Has the printer been working with this computer, or are you trying to add it to the computer for the first time?

It works fine on my desktop computer. The laptop I'm trying to connect it to is a brand new HP laptop with Windows 11.
