"Best AV, malware detectors, etc "

I have always followed the advice here since 2000, so... Any new programs ( free) out there for malware, etc. I use Windows defender, CCleanerslim, Malwarebytes and Super antispyware. I use iobit smart defrag and iobit uninstaller. These are the ONLY thins I use. Always looking for latest advice. Thanks

Windows defender is pretty good and I have used it on several computers with very little getting through. My preference is ESET, I have never had a problem with anything while using it except updating ESET several times because my Start 10 would not let it create a start menu file. They have a program to disable Start 10 for those installations.

I don't let anything Iobit run on any computer I deal with. I'm currently re-investigating Antispyware, but Windows defender has a component for that, that works with other Antivirus programs I believe.

I use Windows Defender, Superantispyware, and malwarebytes and haven't has any problems. They don't catch much - a tracking cookie and once in while, a "PUP" - a "potentially unwanted program".

Have you had problems, or are you just concerned that you might?

I'm sure you know that regular backups are wise no matter which, or how many, "ANTI"-programs you use in case something gets through. It's generally much easier to simply load a backup than to remove a truly nasty program. There are many decent full system or partition backup programs available such as Aomei Backupper or Easus Todo.

A different small program that might be of interest to you is "Restore Point Creator" available free from https://www.toms-world.org/blog/restore_point_creator/

It can be set to make automatic, or manual, system restore point backups. It also allows you to control the number of system restore points and if you need to use it, it allows selection of a specific restore point of your choosing.

I use it to fill in the gaps between monthly full system backups. I make sure to create a new restore point before monthly MS "patch Tuesdays" and other major software changes or removals.

Jim.

I have actually had no problems at all. I just like to keep up to date on things. I maintain my pcs very well, and have taught myself to fix, repair, you name it for the most part. Got my first SSD pc recently and love it. So Just basically keeping up on things.

I believe Malwarebytes running real time (paid) is your best bet, along with an AV.

ok, So put on an Av ( avast??) , malwarebytes paid- uninstall ccleaner, superantispyware? I know you dont recommend Any iobit. Is there an uninstaller you do recommend and a good defrag? Or use the windows defrag. I dont want to have things i do not need on my new pc, but want to make sure it is safe. Thanks, Kitten

Windows 10 keeps ssd's optimized, you don't need anything else.
