With Noah going into High School (can you believe it?!!!) we were looking at getting him his own computer. After some consideration - and his vocal opposition to this, we've changed it to looking at getting him a 10.1" tablet. Most of his typed up school work goes into Google Docs anyway and his old 8" tablet is showing its age. Plus, he could game on it and he loves his games.
I'm currently looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A for him. It looks very nice and would not only suit his current needs, but is powerful enough to last him for the future.
The tablet isn't my immediate concern, though, the keyboard is. Obviously, typing with the onscreen keyboard can be slow. When I write my novel on my phone during my lunch break, I always break out a small phone stand and Bluetooth keyboard. This works great for me and I think a scaled up solution would work nicely for Noah.
Does anyone know of a tablet stand that can go on a lap (while one sits on a couch), can support a 10.1" tablet, and can accommodate a Bluetooth keyboard?
Right now, this and this are my leading contenders, but I'm not sure how well they'd do on Noah's lap. (I could break out my old laptop cooling pad to provide some support if need be.)
One thing to think about is whether you have your tablet in a case and how wide the case is. I bought my wife a slightly cheaper version of the same desk and without a case her Amazon Fire HD 10 works fine. She has a wallet type case and with the case it would not fit in. If you have a hard case it will work. The supcase sold by amazon works fine. I believe the slots dimensions are usually 1/2 inch wide.
